TOPIC: Use of Grunnel’s Hexed Fruitcake

Out of curiosity, how do we go about sending a token to someone who can’t know that they are getting said token.. since the requirements of it, require they recipient not know. Hoping maybe someone in the party my know there address, but that’s not 100%

It seems to me that it is intended for in person events. You have to slip it to someone, somehow without their knowing. Maybe a loose pocket or open compartment on a bag or purse ?

I myself will likely leave the string backpack I carry my token binder with my character build in a little loosely open. Or have the outer zipper open a few inches…certainly players will find a way to have them passed to them.

Get to the coaches room early and place them on a mat or two. Ask the assistance of the coach to give to a particular person/character. I am sure there are other ways.

You just look for someone engaged in conversation and slip it onto their playmat. Or, someone steps away for a moment and you place it where they were sitting. You can only do this once, so I'm certain opportunity will present itself.

Does the recipient have to not know that you gave them anything? Tokens? Or the fruitcake?
Examples; you are letting them borrow some equipment, so you hand them a pouch of tokens that happens to contain the fruitcake. When discovered or at the end of the adventure, you tell them to keep it (presumably you want your other tokens back).
You make a fruitcake with the fruitcake token inside. You give the fruitcake to someone. They know they received it, but aren't aware of the token inside. Does that count?

The way I plan to use this is as follows;
During coaching I’ll hand the fruitcake to the player next to me (face down) and say. Pick this up. Read it, and then pass it Face down to the player on your left. (Repeat). At the end of the chain the last coach gets it. Also the entire party gets to benefit. Then I’ll just tell the coach to do that for the next group and the gift keeps on giving. Just an idea.

The scenario you described is specifically disallowed in the tokendb entry for the Fruitcake. “Even if stealthily given to more than one person, no two people can simultaneously benefit from any specific copy of Grunnel’s Hexed Fruitcake token”

Additionally, it says you can only benefit from one fruitcake, ever.

I wasn't sure on this as the wording confused me. I didn't know if it was one fruitcake ever, or once from each possible fruitcake. I imagine some people may get blessed with more gifted fruitcake than others. I guess if only once, you just pass it on.

It can be yes. I had to read it a few times to fully understand the rules. Basically, no matter how many Grunnel's Hexed Fruitcakes you have, you can only get the benefit once. It has to be passed without the knowledge of the player you are passing it to. The person you secretly gave it receives no negative buffs or benefits from having it passed it to them. You can pass more than one Grunnel's Hexed Fruitcake on to other players in a single dungeon, but once you use Grunnel's Hexed Fruitcake for the first time and receive the HP buff, you can't get it again no matter how many you pass on or are passed to you. Theoretically more than one could be passed to you in one dungeon but some are keeping theirs for the Orb of Annihilation and as I said before, you can only get the HP buff once ( from the 1st Grunnel's Hexed Fruitcake you secretly pass on ) but you can pass as many as you want. Also, in a single dungeon you can't pass more than one Grunnel's Hexed Fruitcake to one player in a single dungeon. If I had enough, come the next VTD in January, I could secretly pass on 9 Grunnel's Hexed Fruitcakes in a single dungeon. One to each player in that run, if the party is full, but I can only get the benefit once.
I think its a pretty cool thing to pass on, but I am stumped on how to pass it to them secretly from a VTD run. I think, after the run is over, I could ask the player / players I passed them for the address to send it to them. I will have to clarify this with the TDA team but this is the only way I can think of passing it on via VTD. Otherwise it would have to be from an in person event. I hope this helps make the rules for Grunnel's Hexed Fruitcake easier to understand
