It would be interesting to see what the cost would be where an Amulet/Ring of Wonder were less expensive than the Omni Orb.

As a side note, this is another reason I'm glad the Omni tokens were introduced. Now TD can put out of print URs and Relics into Legendary Recipes and people have another path if they can't get them.

I do know one Amulet of Wonder token that will never be used in this recipe. I still have the 2008 Amulet of Wonder Proof token that Jeff gave me for designing it (back when he ran a contest for designing a new UR). :)

No, but give me 15 and I’ll have it done :)

While folks have already cleared out reseller sites of Amulets, there are still plenty out there. I have several I would sell or trade away. Then, as slotless is better than not, Rings are going to get used, too.

Using the avg cost of TG, the cost of an OMNI orb, on average will cost $236.50

EDIT: The cheapest you could build one ( if you bought all components and paid the least based on the last 5 auctions TG analysis sheet ) is $172.50. This would obviously go down as each component you had, traded for etc but this is its cheapest value. I have yet to see an orb or cube for sale or auction but I would assume based off precedent, that if it costed on average $236.5 that you take about 30% off the top ( its not collectable or unique ) that would be a resale value of $165.55. The Greatest amount possible based off the same information is $422.70

Quick Recap:
Least: $172.50
Average: $236.50
Greatest: $422.70

Caculated Resale Value: $165.55

NOTE: If anyone has different data or something I am missing, I would love to know. The more data I have the more accurate I can make my calculations.

For people worried about the cost of making an Omni Orb, didn't TD say they would periodically review and adjust the recipe as needed?

Generally, I'm also in the camp of not wanting to see any reprints simply for the sake of completing a transmute recipe. I don't think a reprint of the Wonder tokens would be a large draw for people. Both the ring and amulet are in highly competitive slots. And isn't this situation one reason the Omni Orb and Omni Cube were created?

quoting from Onmi Orb (the Cube has the same text):
For 2024, this token requires all of the items listed below to construct. Assume this recipe will change annually:
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

(all 40 idols - edited for emphasis and to save space)
plus ONLY ONE of the following:
  • Amulet of Wonder
  • Golden Apple of Eris*
  • Ring of Wonder
*Only applicable if you're Kent Raquet

It should be available to order on the Token Exchange Program page by the end of this week.

The last totem was hard enough to make without also requiring an existing out of print UR.

I was going to sign up for some extra VTD to help collect the idols. With this announcement I'll be cutting back again. I was kind of excited by this chance to collect and build a wonder effect, now I'm just disappointed.

I just discovered I had NOT sold my Amulet of Wonder! So I will need to keep track of my idols.

I don’t have a problem with it using an out of print UR. It’s a UR a ton of people had because of the ring and it having a +3 effect for a year. Setting up having the omni orb at the same time fixes any out of print objections for those who don’t have the URs.

Having an unslotted legendary that you can craft for $400 (high side) is a great deal. More realistically, trade goods are easy to come by and most everyone has URs with little value (I drew 8 rings of the Savant last year just myself)(completely ok - I have had years where I drew several nuggets in a row so it all works out,)

For most people, this is a sink for trade goods while having fun collecting the individual components.
What do we want? Evidence based science! When do we want it? After peer review!

Amulets of Wonder are not hard to find. I'd burn up those before Rings.
