So if the trades are consistant with the guide values, why would there be a change in the guide values? (Or are you also trying to factor in scarcity, which is correlated to but separate from trade value?).

Yeah, it really equates to scarcity. There is going to be a major sink in the Commons as people give away "worthless" commons for Uncommons and so forth. And likewise for Uncommons that are traded in for Rares. Rares on the other hand will see more in circulation, at the expense of Commons and Uncommons. It will be interesting to see if more Rares are traded in for URs or obtained by trading in Uncommons. This will indicate the net shift in Rare value.

But because its random, tokens within the same rarity shouldn't fluctuate relative to other tokens within the same rarity.

Well, I, for one, will be trading reds for purps. I don't feel the need to have more than 1 of any given red, except disposables and maybe a back-up of certain high value items (in case of loss or destruction). With the Elixir of Life moving to purp, and minimal desire to take 19:1 odds that I'll get a Potion of Death's Door or a +8 heal (both of which I could trade for at better rates), I personally don't think I'll be going UR to Red unless my token order arrives statistically skewed towards sucktitude.

For folks who don't have all the reds they want, it could be a great chance to get some plate armor or something, but I think most collectors will be moving Red to Purp - especially with all the new purps out this year.

Personally I kinda like the limit 5 per badge as this makes the person think ahead of what more they really want. Do they want to unload that bulk of commons? Or upgrade their greens? OR blow their stack of reds at a shot of UR's?
And given there are only a set number of URs avail for trade in that limits how many will go out into circulation. So if you show up with 125 reds to get 5 purps on day 3 it may be too late.
It'll be interesting to see how things work out.

Well, I think Jeff is pretty smart doing this.

Here's what I think might happen;

• woodies are gonna get more rare
 •
• it won't be unusual for people to trade out those common woodies, such as bone case or steel mirror, and therefore cause them to go up in value
 •
• people will have a way to get rid of those tokens they do not want
 •
• everyone likes a game of "chance"
 •
• everyone's happy
 •
• sounds like a win-win situation
 •

Let the trading begin!

Rare != valuable. The fact that woodies will be rare will not change the value of most of them, mostly because the only people who are really trying to complete sets and the like already have them. It's very unlikely that people starting with chippies will decide to go back and try to make woodie sets. For one, there's very little inherent value in it.

I'm also not sure about the everyone is happy senario. If Jeff's plan is to limit it to 12 UR's or so, I can guarentee that there will be more unhappy people than happy. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there planning to use all of their exchanges for UR's because of the disproportionate value. Frankly, the entire exchange idea dosen't make me very happy because it seems to muck with the established seperation between the rarities. True, it dosen't make me as unhappy as when the ring of prot +1 went from purp to red, but rage is relative.

Thanks for the good feedback everyone. When I thought up this idea I was thinking more along the lines of a small collector maybe turning in some old Commons and maybe some Uncommons. I thought it would be fun for some one with 25 Commons to turn them in for a random new Uncommon chippie. I can see now that I was a little shortsighted on the scope of the UR need. I'll give this some more thought, post further details and then ask for more input.

If people are concerned about the scarcity of the URs, some possible options are:

1) Only allow conversion to Uncommon and Rare (not URs) -or-
2) Change the ratios to decrease the incentive to trade in tokens (1:30, 1:15, 1:30)
3) Limit to 1 UR per person
4) Increase the number of URs to like 20 (one of each).
I like option 3, but then I am not a tokenholic.
I think option 3 is good as well.

Kim

I am a tokenholic, but with the Pre-Order Incncentives this year, I agree that limiting to 1 UR per person seems plenty generous.

Of course, I'll have tokens to burn this year, so I *could* toss out more reds for more URs.
