Thanks for all the answers.  I think TD is right in keeping it simple, but when I ask a question it is always for a reason.  I was looking for a way to give the wizard an effective weapon from a distance in case spells are not usable, since I will be playing Wiz on at least one of my runs.  A Wiz with gloves of dex and a girdle of Giant Strength could be a significant contribution with a dagger of throwing in a room where magic might not be effective.  At the same time he/she could stay further out of harm's way.<br /><br /><br />Widseth

A WIZ with sling and gloves of dex and bracers of archery...is +1 to hit and +2 damage...granted the sling stone is weak...<br /><br />How about a good TStone, or maybe Alchemist fire?

According to standard AD&D rules ALL thrown weapons have their damage + strength modifier.  Including a neg to damage if thrown by a weak character.
