TOPIC: Returning to TD since 2004

Returning to TD since 2004 16 years 11 months ago #1

Well, at long last I am able to return to TD. My last forray was 2004 SoCal. But having read the new token guide I am saddened to see all the magic weapons I gleaned from that delve are no longer usable (+1 Quarterstaff and +1 dagger), as they do not have the damage printed on them. Are there any upgrade capabilities provided at the weaponsmith near the tavern or am I just out of luck?

The easiest solution is to get your hands on either the common weapons or any of the newer ones with the damage wheel. Then just show the old +1 versions and ask the DM to add one to the damage wheel...

Those old tokens are worth quite a bit in trade to collectors. You could easily get the newer +1 versions for each old version you have and then some!!!

I'm not sure what the answer to that is but for what its worth, the +1 Quarterstaff and +1 Dagger without damage wheels will be worth more from a collectors standpoint. I am certain you could trade them with someone for the newer counterparts with damage wheels and you can probably get something else thrown in.

Good luck to you and welcome back. =)

Then I guess I need to read up on the trade value of things, because I have the 2004 cloaks of resistance and boots of elvenkinds too... so not to sound completely ignorant, where is a good place to do the trading? The new and improved tavern or is the forum a good place, since I want to get geared up prior to attendance.?

I'd be happy to do a trade with you to gear you up prior to attendance - I sent you a Personal Message. Welcome back to True Dungeon!

Thanks!
Mike

The forum is the best place to trade! By far - the die-hard collectors are here...

Maybe finding the +1 Dagger with a Damage Wheel will not be so easy...The only year I think that existed was 2005A - the Wind backed token set.

Anyway - see if you can find some collector with an extra Wind back +1 Dagger, and then see if you can get at least 2-3 extra REDS - maybe 5...

OR you can always think CASH and throw them up on eBay...I would bet you could get around $50 each for them easy.

I have an extra 2005A Wind +1 Quarterstaff - but I already have the 2004 Quarterstaff...

If you want to trade the +1 Dagger for the +1 Quarterstaff (with wheel) I have and I would toss in 3-5 REDS, let me know...I bet you will get a few offers either here or in Personal Message very soon...

You need to be aware that the price guides found on the True Dungeon website (or anywhere else) won't give you an accurate value of your older tokens, because they deal more with the most recent printing and don't take into affect the increased value of older tokens, particularly from 2003 and 2004 when they were more scarce. The value of your older tokens is substantially higher than the newer printings, so you should be able to receive a very nice return on your 2004 investment.

Thanks!
Mike

Mike, Gary, and SMAK
Thank you very much for the insight and information.
I will definately look over my collection and reply in the next day or two to any PMs and work out as many positive trades as possible. My key thing is, I have convinced 6 other people to join me and I want to be as geared as possible so they can see as much of the dungeon without dying first. Since armor has been introduced since 2004 and the new weapon wheels I suspect that is the priority items.
I saw Raven had a list of "highly recommended items" in her guide to Tokens, are there other ones I should keep in mind when arranging trades?

The BEST armour & weapon your character can use.
Mage Armour (Very Rare) for your Wizard
Boots of Elvenkind (Very Rare) for your Rogue.
A Ring of Featherfall for your party (Very Rare). Let the person taking the risks (at the time) wear it.
Ditto for a Ring of Fire Resistance.
Ditto for a Ring of Frost Resistance.
Amulet of Armor and/or Bracers of Defense
Healing Potions (Common, Rare, and Very Rare). Any and all Healing is useful!
An Elixir of Life (Very Rare) - just in case.

As I learned in 2004 Gear does not equal success, but it does increase odds of survival.

Lastly would you suggest waiting until I get my 2007 Token order (which I think is coming to us in a couple of weeks) to do trading so both the traders and myself know what is availble and needed?

Anyway, thank you again to all who reply, as I have been "out of the loop" for so long.
For sure wait until you have your 2007 stash!

Also remember, your group will net seven additional new bags of tokens for the start of the adventure. In theory, unless luck is quite against you, most should be able to pick up basic armor and weapons, so you may decide it is not necessary to arrange everyone's gear before the event.

greyseer,

i would wait until you got your 2007 order. it might bhave some pleasant surprises. a purple perhaps. =D you will probably get things you might have traded for now, thus losing some potential for trading them for other possibly more desirable tokens.
