TOPIC: plat token value

im thinking we should get a discussion going on the valuation of plat tokens, so we can all get a better idea of what to expect.  this just came up for me as i was sending a few messages with some plat rares on my trade list and i am very uncertain as to how others are going to value them.  on the side of being only a little more expensive i keep thinking things like 'they are just rares that are a little special', and compared to things like magic cards foils can often be considered 1.5 to double price with a few exceptions for certain cards.  but then i keep looking at the math of it...you are 10 times more likely to pull a regular rare than you are that same plat rare(wait, 9 times...that 10th regular rare is replaced by the plat).  and when compared with URs in a large purchase (at least 25 packs..and numbers are avg due to uncertainty of 00 pull and such), you get 5 out of the 20 UR per 100 packs (because of bonus URs) vs 10 out of the 40 plat rares per 100 packs...that is the same chances when looking for a particular item.  though the bonus/free packs thrown in, plus any purchases that dont earn bonus URs push the stats in favor of URs being harder to get.  also, there will always be high demand for URs, while there will be plenty of people who dont care if their token is plat or not.  so, i kinda expect some plat rares to be tradable for some of the lower/mid URs...though, maybe i am underestimating the quantity and effect of smaller purchases and thus overestimating the actual rarity of plat rares?<br />let us hear your thoughts (or at least let us read them).

I look on the PLATs as a collector mission...either you have a pretty good start and can go for a set...or you did not get many (too many dups) and you scrap the idea.<br /><br />Sure players may want their armor in PLAT and certain items each class uses...but will they be as COOL as a foil shivan dragon?  I dunno.<br /><br />Personally would I trade a PURP for a PLAT rare - um...no.  Would I trade a PURP burner for 5 PLAT rares...um maybe if I had a double of the PURP, and a full set of PURPs...<br /><br />They are not going to be equal to a PURP in most minds...at least that is my opinion.

I would guesstimate that Plat Rare Conumables would be around 2x and that Plat Rare Permenants would be around 3x.<br /><br />The reason for the difference being that collectors trying to get sets will drive up both prices but permenants are more likely to be in demand for singles.<br /><br />But if there are a large number of people all going for sets, you could see these multiples jump significantly.<br /><br />Keep in mind, this is just a guess.  I don't have enough trade data to do anything like a curve yet.<br />-D=

<br /><br />If your estimation keeps at that level, I've got a buncha perm plat R's for you.<br /><br />IMO, the added value of a token being plat is just about worthless. 'Just about' being the qualifier in case you can find someone trying to finish a collection and you have what he/she happens to be missing. If I have a preference, I'd grab a plat over a gold, but not if I had to pay significantly for it.

Sadly, even though I'd like to get a full set of PLATs, I don't know if I will.  I just don't set the value as high as the rest of you.

I think the plats are very kewl, but won't affect how I trade (unless I can get more for one of them).  Since I can't afford to try for a set of even golds, I'll be more interested in trying to trade for things I can use during runs thru the dungeon.<br /><br />Brian<br />
