Much thanks to Dave for taking all the flak about the tokens and then updating the Guide. And thanks to Doug "Foss Altus" Martin for posting it.

www.truedungeon.com/true/2007_Token_Guide_6.1.pdf
Just finished rereading, awesome update! It cleared up almost every question I have!

The only comment I have is:

From the FAQ:
15. Does Mage armor stack with other items or armor?
No, Mage armor can only be used by the Wizard and Bard, and will not work under armor (Bard) or with other items that act as armor, such as the Cloak of the Mage

That lead me to believe that Mage armor doesn't work with an Amulet of armor, Bracers of Defense or Ring of protection. They are all items that act as armor (or at least that augment armor)

I believe I asked in the forums if those three item stack with Mage armor or Cloak of the Mage and was told that they stack with either. So I'm still a bit confused about magic armor and mages.

It's my understanding that the Cloak and the Mage Armor don't stack, but other combinations with those other items are fine.

Brian

I have to say that it looks to me like this was intended to keep people from wearing things that act as armor (a cloak acts as armor), not rings or amulets though. Those, as you pointed out, enhance armor not act as armor. I interpereted it to say that you cant try to sneak in a cloak, cause it aint armor, when it clearly has an armor effect. You couldnt wear chainmail and plate armor and get both effects, cause they are both armor. I think the same is intended for the cloak, or any other token which you wear like armor. Rings and amulets are "magical effects" which add to your armor. Or at least thats one guy's opinion, one guy who never plays the mage for whatever that is worth, which is prety much diddly. Oh well ;).

Someone previously mentioned that the Scroll of Comprehend Languages was originally usable by "ALL" and with the new chippies is now just for "Arcane." The latest guide seems to have shifted the entry to Arcane.

But does that mean that the older scrolls (with "ALL" printed) can still be used by Clerics, Druids, Rangers, and Paladins? Since the old Potion of Bull's Strength uses what was printed, will this apply to the older Scrolls of Comprehend Languages?

I'd guess a scroll that still says "All" (wood) would still be usable by all, for the sake of simplicity, but I am by no means an official word.
Re: New 6.1 Token Guide Posted! 16 years 10 months ago #8

That is correct, if there are older versions of tokens with clear wording (i.e. all) that indicate they can be used by more classes than the current version, the tokens text will be the indicator or ruling.

The exception to this is older weapons and armor. Since they did not have any restrictive text on them in the past, we are making the call that newer restrictions apply to those older tokens. So just because the Barbarian could use Elven Chain last year, does not mean that a barbarian can wear Elven Chain this year, even if it is an older token.

Question:

The Helm of Clear Thought says +4 to save rolls against Charms or mental attack.

Is a Sleep spell or a Hold person spell considered a mental attack?

Better yet, please answer what a mental attack is and if we should just consider the +4 from the helm as a total bonus to anything that calls for a Will save check...

Thanks!

I was thinking Mind Flayer...

or Fear effect.

But yah, anything with a Will Save is a reasonable enough answer.

Re: New 6.1 Token Guide Posted! 16 years 10 months ago #12

I was thinking Mind Flayer too, but wanted to know about all those pesky other things that could be rolled up into a mental attack...

OK so a big bad Cleric (base +6 will saves) could in theory, wear the: +2 cloak, the +4 helm and the +4 ring...That's +16 on WILL SAVES! Whoo Hoo! My mind is my temple!!! (afterall the bod is shot!)

Of course it all matters not if you roll a "1" but I like those odds...
