Something completely different - trading token cases for gold 16 years 11 months ago #1

Hi gang! I've been search around for some kind of individual token container that I could put some of my more valuable tokens in. After some trial and error I've found one I like (pictures included below).

The container I found is bit bigger then token its self (I think it's about 1/2 inch larger in diam, and the hight of two tokens). The containers have a foam insert that you push the token into (It takes a bit of force, they are made for items a touch smaller) then you snap the top over the bottom and it locks the token in place (You can get the token back out again but you have use something with a sharp edge to pry apart the two halves)

I can order these one by one or in a big lot for a bit of a discount. I know that I want more, so I was wondering if any of the other tokenaholic types would be interested in some. To add an extra wrinkle, I don't really want to deal collect real money from people so I was wondering if those interested would be up for trading gold/gems for holders.

I figure if the other tokenaholic on the forum would like to trade for about 20 holders total I could buy one of the big lots and would be able to ship them out to people in sets of of 5 containers for 150gp (gold or gems or any rare token at pricelist value) or I would be will to trade them at the con for 40gp each. (Assuming I order a big lot of them)

Either way I'm going to order myself a bunch more of the black foam containers (I think they look better then the whites)

UPDATE (6/26/07): I have received the holders, they are a slightly different style then pictured below and I have them available even cheaper then listed in this post. Jump here for up-to-date information on the holders

Any idea what they are actually made to hold?

I might be interested - would be good to hold things that are non-consumable, such as my Ring of Prot and Cloak of Resistance.

Brian
Iiiinteresting.

With something like that, I'd like to see it in person before commiting to it. But if it looks as cool IRL as in pics, I could see myself wanting maybe a half-dozen.

My preference would be to pay cash, though, not GP.

Coin collecting whozits. I looked at a few of them...it's not hard to find online, but I didn't think it was worthwhile. The only thing they're really good for might be transporting woodies through the mail so they don't break. Otherwise, they're just too fiddly to carry around.
Any idea what they are actually made to hold?

They are made to hold coins and casino tokens. The holder that is the best for TD tokens is designed for a coin that is 1 mm small in diam but the foam is very stretchy and the TD token fits with out a problem (other then needing to push the token sideways into the foam with some force to get it seated right, once the token is seated its a near perfect fit)

The only complaint that I have is there are some very small ruff edges on the outside of the case, they can be quickly and easily fixed by running a knife over them (The people that make these are making them for hard core coin collectors, the inside of the case is what the collectors want to be perfect because they don't want anything to damage the coin, the outside they want to look perfect (which it does) but I doubt they care if there is a ruff edge or two, as long as its away from the coin).

Could you point out the maker so we can consider ordering direct?

Clearly this idea is dying a quick death given that I wanted to trade for these. Not sell them or redirect.

*Grumble*

The manufacture is Air-Tite Holders the product is the X39mm Black "Holder with Ring"

Well posting the source is MOST cool of you Mike!

I think that is in the true spirit of the sharing community we have here...

I think if you were to buy a decent supply of these and people were to get them for GP - no one would begrudge you getting GP (or cash) for taking the risk...

Thanks for posting the full details...they have other cool stuff too!

I thank you! I think others will too!

Thanks for the link Mike. I am going to use some of their stuff to make up a nice display for the 2007 token collection housed in the tavern. I'll bring my wall mounted 2004 and 2005b display as well.
