TOPIC: Something completely different - trading token cases for gold

Re: Something completely different - trading token cases for gold 16 years 11 months ago #13

I just received my Girdle of Hill Giant Strength in one of these containers Mike.

Thank you Jeff!

It looked so cool! The black really sets off the token. I'll have to find that link and how much they cost. I think some major URs and stuff are going in these. As Jeff told me, it would be neat to put it on a chain (the plastic has a little holder loop) and wear it. I don't know how strong that plastic loop is though. The container, however, stays fairly tight. I wouldn't be worried about the container opening and losing a UR that way.

Pretty Spiffy, Jeff. Thank you again.

John
I bought some of the medallion ones to use to ship any purchased URs. Thanks for the idea Mike.

I bought some of the snaptite cases but they are too small, so I had to go with the medallions.

They were _really_ lovely. It looks even better in person than in the pictures. It almost makes me want to go grab some too, but I figure it'd just make things more cluttered to carry. I'll take any space-saving measure at this point. I could also use an anti-grav unit for the weight :).

Continuing merrily along beating a possibly dead horse...

... I'm now to the point that I think I'm going to go ahead and order a case of token holders (case = 250 token holders). I called the case holder company and given the break they offer for a case I could get people holders for 25 gold each or $1 each.

This leads me to two (plus two) questions:

• Would you like smooth round holders like my picture shows above , or ones with a ring loop at the top that may or may not be strong enough to hold onto the token in the dungeon (Weaver and henwy feel free to jump in and say how strong or not strong you think the loop on the holders you got from Jeff are, that is what I would be getting if I got the loop version)
  •
• Who wants some of these?

• Are you willing to trade in tokens?
    •
• or are you only willing to pay cash? (I'd much prefer to trade)

The rings look pretty damn solid to me. This is not something you could snap off without really trying at it. It would also have to be perpendicular force. If you attached a sturdy string to it and tried to pull the two apart, the string would fail first.

Sidenote, I might want some. I was thinking about it the other day but it would be nice to have all my perm equip on a string.necklace. While it might look cool, I'm just not certain it's really practical considering that with the coaches, all of our tokens just have to be displayed once in the prep area. Maybe a necklace of rings would work though. This way you could easily swap them without having to fumble in pockets.

That is what I was planing on doing (if I bought the holders with out the loops I was going to drill them so I could run a string through.) Rings, amulets, armor, bracers (other then dragon fist) all could be fair game for 'necklace of holder-ing'.
oooo - a necklace of items...that sounds like a workable trick!

Better put me down for 10 - IF I can pay cash...I'm not bringing much gold...and would rather mail a check if you want payment now...

... Yes I'll now deal with cash.

But- If we are going to mail each other tokens because of a trade anyway, you could mail me some of those low value gold tokens that you don't want to carry to the con and I could mail your holders as part of the trade. =D

Given henwy's good review and everyone's desire to use them in a neckless-y type fashion, the 'loop' holder is the style I'll go for. My current plan is to place an order with them tomorrow. I'll update this thread as I know more.

sorry, Mike. It's the middle of the night and I just woke up for a moment. Time to head back to bed.
I haven't looked yet to see how sturdy that loop is. First, I have to find string small enough to fit through it.

If I get a chance, I'll check it out tomorrow.

If it is strong enough, I'll probably ask for more. Thank you.

JKW
