I decided to splurge on one of the albums...so I went ahead and got the 10 medallion holders direct.

Thanks for posting this Mike - sure seems like Jeff likes their stuff too!

I ordered the cases today. I may have them by the end of the week. Once I have them I'll reconfirm everything is fitting, do some strength tests and post new pictures. Expect an update within a week.

The current 'interested in some' list is:

• henwy (maybe)
 •
• weaverjk (depending on str)
 •
• smakdown
 •
• bpsymington - 5ish
 •
• kl613 - 5ish
 •

As a side note: I ordered two sizes of rings. The 39mm which is a great fit for the new larger tokens bit a loose on the woodies and some 38mm which I hope will be a tighter fit for the woodies. When I post the update I'll let you know how well the smaller 38mm rings work for the wooden tokens.

Did you order the ones that can go on a necklace? That would be perfect for rings, cloaks, etc.

Brian
What I noticed in the picture is that you have an extra Amulet of Thorns... selling that for $1? :-)

I just got one of these token cases from Mike (he tossed it in as a freebie on our most recent trade) and I have to say: they're very cool!

I can't speak for everyone, but I think they're well worth the $1.00 each, or 25gp.

Mike - you can put me down for 5 of them right now. I might buy even more once GenCon rolls around.... depends on how trading goes in the Tavern.

- Raven

The black border ones are really nice although I cant comment on the white border ones. My Horn of Plenty looks very nice encased in it for wearing it around my neck.

The case of rings I ordered are black, I think they look much better then the white rings for both gold and plat tokens.

I've got the holders... 16 years 10 months ago #36

This weekend the holders came in and I've started testing and review them.

Good news:

• The loop ring is quite strong, I got up to 25 lbs before it broke, and even then the loop didn't break, the holder its self did (See picture)
 •
• These holders are a bit less bulky then the holders I started with
 •
• The fit is tight and secure (even including bad new below)
 •

Bad news:

• The tokens are 0.5 mm wider then the inside of the token holders so the holder can't be completely closed (0.5 mm is quite small, its just a bit thicker then an average fingernail)
 •

Why the bad new is really sorta good news:

• Because the holder can't be completely closed, it can be reopened using fingernails or a screwdriver. The earlier holders I showed pictures of do close completely, but can only be opened with a sharp knife (or destructively with a hammer)
 •
• Even though they don't close completely they do close with enough force that there shouldn't be any problems with the holders falling apart.
 •

I tested the holders loop strength using both a straight pull (holding the holder in between my fingers with a loop of cord going down to weight bags, lifting the weight bags off the ground, increasing weights until broken) and torquing the loop (putting a steal rod through the loop and twisting until broken)

Precisely as henwy predicted, the loop held quite a bit of weight on a straight pull (25 lbs) but was much weaker when twisted (Didn't have a scale but on the order of 1 foot pound).

As long as the holder is hanging from a string I don't think the twisting weakness will be too much of a problem. The string will twist before the holder breaks.

(As a side note, while my method of testing straight pull strength gave good results I shouldn't have tried it with out wear protective wear. The sudden failure of the plastic cut a heck of a gash in my finger (See picture))

One thing the holders are missing is a split ring. I have samples on the way from a split ring manufacturer and hope to order some this week. The split rings shown in the pictures are MUCH weaker then the holder its self, they failed at about 10 lbs. I'm trying to find a split ring that isn't too large, but still has nearly the same strength as the plastic.

Update: See the post below for trading/pricing information on the holders.

Pictures:
#1 Picture of the box of token holders
#2 Picture of the the holders on a neckless-like string (Using the weak split rings)
#3 Picture of how the holder breaks with too much straight pull (Using a stronger but overly large split ring)
#4 Picture of what happens to a finger if its next to the loop when the plastic breaks
