I've been working on a system to safely mail wood tokens.

Sending them in a plain envelope tends to result in cracked tokens, and even a bubble mailer has failed to protect the woodies sufficiently according to some people. I've heard of people wrapping them in cardboard (3 layers, with a token-sized hole cut in the middle one) and that sounds neat, but takes a bit of work, and carboard still has some flex.

I'm wrapping my wood tokens between 2 (common) resin tokens and taping them together with packing tape.
It's kinda like an Oreo Cookie, with a woodie in the middle.

The 3-token stack can be tossed into a bubble-mailer quite easily, and doesn't make it so thick that it has to be sent as a package.

The packing tape peels off the resin tokens with ease. If you wrap them sticker-side-in, the commons are still useable afterwards. I haven't had any problems with tape sticking to the wood token or leaving gumminess on it, but a thin layer of plastic wrap (Saran wrap, etc.) over the wood token would prevent even the possibility of that.

The only problem I have encountered thus far is that you need to leave yourself a small (folded over on itself) flap of packing tape to grab when unwrapping. Trying to get the packing tape off when you can't find the loose end is a bitch.

Anyone else found methods that work for them?
Now that wood tokens are out of print, people are going to start being more particular about keeping them in good condition for the collectors.

- Raven

Between two layers of cardboard with a bubble mailer seems to have worked okay for me. In the past, I used perscription bottles for large trades. That ended up being bulky but I could be almost certain notta was going to crush it. Really, anything that allows for enough space will do it. Sending a box with a token tossed in amongst large amounts of fluffed paper towels is almost guarenteed. Heck, even just tossing a single token into an empty yet large enough box will almost certainly have it survive. It's just trying to save/minimize space and postage where the risk adds in.

The token oreo is a neat idea...but what if you have 4 or 8 tokens going out...

I like the old floppy disk method for a couple of reasons...

*Floppy disk method is you use two old 3.5 floppys and put 4 tokens flat between them - like a sandwhich*

First reason I like it - is you can use this on only 1 token, or 2 or 3 or 4...5 is even ok, but you are putting this one on its own layer.

Second reason I like it - you can go media mail IF it works out less expensive that way.

*SECRET reason I like it - I get to get rid of these ancient FLOPPY DISKS!*

What worked the best for me was using old DVD cases. I found bubble pack envelopes that a DVD case just fit in. We use binder pages for most of our DVDs so I had a ton of cases left over. I took a small piece of bubble wrap and placed it on either side of the token, then placed it in the DVD case (bubble wrap just kept the token from sliding). The whole case then goes in a padded mailer.

If all the other stuff gets mangled, the token is likely to survive. I sent up to about 12 tokens this way.

Dave

Technically, I don't think that's legal. Maybe Larry Anthony knows for sure.
Media mail works best if you have one of those scan it yourself kiosks. Then you can cheat to your heart's content without nosy USPS workers butting in.

Floppy disks are media mail!

OH Henwy - we got the 3/4inch speech at the Post Office today...anything that you tag with Delivery Confirmation needs to be at least 3/4 inch thick!

G

Thats what I used in my latest round of auctions and didn't hear any complaints. I put tokens in a plastic sheet to prevent sliding as one additional step.
