TOPIC: Trade Ingredient Tokens

Trade Ingredient Tokens 16 years 10 months ago #1

Here is the second poll, this one concerns the idea of Trade Ingedient Tokens.

When thinking through the combos this year, I was trying to think of ways that TD might make trades for some of the common weapons, armor, and items. Once people manage to get a uncommon or rare set of armor and weapons, they seem to rarely use the common tokens they also have.

I thought of allowing trades (as a real trader would do) for essentially surplus items. Say I am equipping an army, or more specifically for the story arc, I need to equip the city of Greyhawk to defend itself against the armies of Iuz.

These Trade ingredient tokens could be for things like:

• A bunch of bladed weapons
 •
• Lots of leather armor
 •
• A number of bows
 •
• Some metal armor
 •

They could be for categories of tokens, not just a specific one, and wooden and resin tokens would be accepted in trade.

They could be printed with a GP value denomination so they could actually function as currency (sort of).

They would also be part of combo ingredients as the only or optional formula.

Comments welcome….

Dave
For this idea, if I understand it correctly, I don't see a big demand for these. Its really no different than say turning in 100 daggers to get a purple dagger. If the "purple dagger" is used for a combo token, then you exclude people that don't have 100 daggers.

I don't know. Its not a bad idea and it would cut down on the transport weight for players. But would it be reversable? I could see a player converting/trading all of his bladed weapons in but then at some point, needing a longsword for another recipe.

I'd be interested in hearing specifics.

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of:

A special refined metal token in exchange for 20 bladed weapons (any kind).

The token would have a value of 100GP printed on it so if people wanted to trade there would be a reference. There would be future combos that might use this special metal or maybe using the special metal in the making would reduce the cost of the combo.

Maybe the future combo that required a special metal token would be a cool bladed sword that had some unique property.

My original thinking was that it would not be reversable.

Just thinking of options.

So notes/high GP tokens for GOLD...

and refined resource tokens for ITEMS...

Sounds good. Sounds like a hybrid of "combos" and "Pink dagger" ideas thrown out.

Kind of, but I am hopeful it will be a little nicer than just a different color image....

I'd have to say it sounds like it will be...I mean more combos for those in fodder situations...almost promotes getting more fodder to get those combos! COOL!

Sounds like it's just going to add another level of collectability to the whole thing. I'm generally against that if for no other reason than I'm having enough trouble working on what's aleady there.

ok, very cool. i read the other two polls first and i was going to post a question about converting the non-GP items into GP, as that is my main concern with commons. to me, this sounds like the best of the ideas.

Part of the thought behind the concept was generating a reason to “want” common stuff.

I think (and maybe I have missed the overall point) that TD’s desire to stay out of the normal token for token trading, making it a player (collector) run venture, is good. That means, however, that we rely on the traders (collectors) to have a reason to trade better items for more common ones or gold. I am thinking of the trading conversations I overheard before the Artisan token auction and the combos which mainly indicated that traders had no incentive to accept gold (no use) so they were only interested in rare items.
Along comes the auction and suddenly gold was a viable trade item.

I see this as much the same way, only making it worthwhile to trade few daggers for a better sword. The traders (understandably a small percentage) might be willing to trade for these items, knowing they could then exchange them for something they wanted.

The trick would be not to keep things too far out of the reach of the average player (not easy) so that if they wanted to trade for one, they could with a small effort or “buy in”.
The (expended explanation) option definitely address many of my concerns.

I like that it has a stated GP value for trading and can work like an (optional) ingredient for combos.

In addition to a better "combo"/"pink dagger" idea, this includes the "shop" component as well.

Thank you!!!

I really think that this idea sounds cool and has a lot of potential.

Kim
