TOPIC: Trade Reserve Certificates

Trade Reserve Certificates 16 years 11 months ago #1

OK, the last idea (for now, and this one was not my own) was one that some people have been requesting TD consider.

Similar to Reserve Tokens the suggestion was to create Reserve Notes. That is a paper voucher with a printed denomination (in GP) that TD would issue in trade for an equivalent amount of Gold and gems (face value).

• These Reserve Notes could be used in the auction.
 •
• These Reserve Notes could be traded as part of larger negotiated trades (e.g. portable).
 •
• These Reserve Notes would have to be recorded and serialized (to prevent counterfeit).
 •
• These Reserve Notes might be only temporary until TD could have Reserve Tokens made (if there were enough interest).
 •

The idea behind this would be that the paper notes would be easier for TD to make immediately, and solve the issue of portability for traveling and plane rides.

These would have to be accepted by traders and collectors as TD, unlike a bank, could not easily cash in a 1000GP note for a stack of GP tokens.

Interested?

Dave
I think this is a good idea.

I agree that these would need to be serialized and logged somewhere to prevent counterfeiting however, this doesn't prevent a person from still doing counterfeiting and trading them to players. In otherwords, its only when you trade them back into TD to get GP tokens or what not would any checking be possible, or am I missing something.

For that reason, I don't think players would be too keen on accepting these notes in a trade UNLESS they knew the person they were doing the trading with. But even then, the friend might have unknowingly received the counterfeit note in a trade with another player.

But other than that, its a good idea. But I might wait until the Tokens can be printed.

My 2 GPs on the subject.

Fair enough, Douglas.

The complexity really depends on how intense we are with tracking the information.

Jeff threw out the idea of an online DB as sort of a banking account (that sounded like work though).

Verification could be as simple as an e-mail to me to verify that the person who wants to trade with them really owns the certificate. Of course that means I would have to keep records as the notes changed hands.

I do not have all the answers, I am really throwing the ideas out for discussion and inspiration.

Dave
Could a GP number be tied to our individual XP database?

Honestly, I think just sticking to the large denomination GP Tokens would be far easier on everyone. =^/

I would tend to agree, but I was only responding to several suggestions of making such a thing available ASAP, even if tokens could be produced in the future.

I think I'm onboard with Douglas. I'd be interested in trading in a bunch of lower denomination gold/gems for higher denomination ones. True Dungeon could print out a special run of different denomination (high, starting at 250 I'd think, maybe also including 500, 1000, and 2000 GP) gold reserve tokens. It's not a big deal to carry around a small handful of high denomination gold tokens. The great thing for True Dungeon is it could be like people collection the state quarters - many people that trade in bunches of gold for the higher denomination reserve tokens will want to keep at least one of each in their collection. If they get a new printing each year (maybe to match the token design for that year) - that could be a neat new collectible each year as well as a very handy way to combine a bunch of tokens into a very few for portability.

And as has been pointed out, the reserve gold tokens would be harder to counterfeit.

Mike

Only reason for ASAP is for the benefit of those flyers this year...Auction could see limited participation from those that can't bag up enough 200 Ruby Rings and won't bag up all their 5, 10 GP coins...

If we can't get something in place - no big loss...

But now that SoCal is gone - remember us out West, when thinking stuff up. ;/

Well Gary, that was precisely the reason I threw the topic out there. As someone who always seems to bring too much stuff when traveling, and deals with the “fine”. Transporting lost of tokens would be a real pain. However, trading them in before hand and mailing them at bulk rate, may be a better deal (except for poor Raven).

I can see the future, Raven hires a proxy sorter to open all the tokens, the only send the ones for her collection, the rest stay local until the con... (but that probably ruins the fun of opening, doesn't it?).

I didn't vote, because the closest to what I feel isn't a choice. This would not be likely to affect me, since I don't have enough tokens for it to be an issue. However, I think it is a good idea to have paper certificates or high-denom tokens to help those collectors and players who would be affected.
