TOPIC: New Purple Tokens at GenCon

Re: New Purple Tokens at GenCon 16 years 8 months ago #13

I missed that one, but heard it was pretty scary (for the DM, anyway). Those new tokens are super heavy en masse!

Way to go, Gary! Good job. I was focused on the table with the books and wine glass so didn't even see the cabinet.

JKW

The bottom fell out and hundreds of tokens spilled all over the floor.

I heard the radio calls about it - sounded pretty dramatic!

and yet, no one liked my idea of filling my pinata chest full of tokens. Go figure. :P
Yeah, that was me...

It was around 1100 tokens in the box, the bottom of which fell out just after everybody in the party drew theirs for a successful kill. The sound was quite incredible, as was the look on my face, I'm sure! The party was cool about it (they went wide-eyed and said "Dude... that sucks!") and didn't try to grab anything. Unfortunately, it happened as the final countdown was ticking away, with about 15 seconds left in the room. We popped the gate and shooed them out, and I started making the frantic radio calls, as I had to run all the way back to the other side and get the next group.

Fortunately, room 1 being as seperated out as it is, the players never had a clue what was happened. The awesome response from my Shambling Mound, several directors, and pretty much everybody in the area cleared all 1100+ tokens off the table and floor, moved the table out, re-attached the bottom of the box, refilled it (with a smaller number), and reset the entire room in the approximately 3 minutes the party took to get to the combat area. My thanks to all those involved!

You know, you don't even have to hit pinatas.
I've seen them built so people just pull "strings" until the pinata busts open. We could have simply cut a hole in it and duct-taped the trap door shut but rigged it with a pull-string.

Well, if I ever get enough tokens that I feel I can just dump a bunch of tokens (rares included) to the masses, I'll give it a try.

That's about as good as an Indianapolis 500 Pit Crew! =D
