TOPIC: Bulk Buy Question

Bulk Buy Question 16 years 8 months ago #1

Do the "bulk shipped" 250+ token buying options included the "bonus" UR tokens as well as the 1/100 chance in each bag? Or are the guaranteed URs the only ones that you are going to see in the entire purchase?

Sweet! I know they just "bulk pack" the tokens into a giant ziplock, so i wasn't sure if the random UR was still factored in.

This year, the bulks were shrink-wrapped in stacks of 10 (at least all the ones I know of were).
Not all...we got ours pretty late (cause we're dumb), and ours came bagged like you would buy at the con.

Since I was boycotting the tokens earlier this year, I missed out on a set of the 2007 tokens and wanted to do a bulk buy while there were still some left. I actually don't care about the little bags - cool as they are, I usually end up giving them away.

The tokens came from the factory wrapped in sets of 10. The sets were 7 random commons, 2 random uncommons, and 1 random rare, with 1/100 bags having a purp instead of 1 common.

The problem was that people were getting upset over what they thought was "random" and what was truly random. Finding 5 daggers in one pouch is random. Never finding duplicate tokens in each "bag" is not. For people buying over 25 bags, this is not an issue as the statistics worked in their favor to even out the "5 of the same common" bags. However, the directors were concerned that some new player might get this bag at the con and not purchase anything else, therefore, having a very limited set of tokens to work with.

So they broken open a lot of sets and repacked them by hand in the black bags. This ensured that a new player wouldn't be stuck with a bunch of daggers and no other equipment or gear. If you purchased any additional tokens (green bags), you would have found the shrink wrapped pack of 10 inside.

I think TD shipped out individual repackaged bags for small orders (under 25 I guess), and left the pre-made packs for the larger orders.

You can still order 2007 tokens if you want.

I placed a couple of huge orders before GenCon 2006 and the randomness was kinda suspect. I wound up with 4 URs - 2 Rings of Evasion and 2 Girdles of Hill Giant Strength. For an "ultra" rare, getting dupes was something unexpected, especially twice.

I'm not really complaining other than the fact that the purps I did want no one wanted to trade for, so I've got two purps that I'm effectively keeping out of circulation waiting to see if I can made an unlikely trade.

I've fixed that this time around - I gave away my spare Ring earlier this year and am going to sell the Girdle when I eBay the wooden portion of my collection before GenCon 2008. It would be nice to get a broader range of purps this time around.

(While I'm all for the "00" bags having random URs, I think the bonus ones you get should not be random. Anyone who spends enough to get that many bonus tokens should be able to collect them without dupes.)

They did that offer when the tokens first came out (choose your UR). After some time, they changed it to random URs. I'm sorry to hear about your luck, or lack there of, with getting duplicate URs. But that's random for you. Feel free to trade one away for the UR that you do want.

Girdle is a good token and you can definitley trade for almost any other UR that is out.

Initially, there were shrink-wrapped tokens.
Then some were hand sorted.
Then some were again factory sorted.
Then, the majority of what was brought to the con was hand sorted.

So, you probably saw a mixture of hand-sorted versus shrink-wrapped.

JKW

I'd have to think that the PICK your PURP promotion was a HUGE success for TD token sales.

I don't think this promotion was too skewed or too powerful...I think it did what it needed to do - raise funds to help take TD to another level as far as props and EFX.

Personally, I think the PICK your PURP deal will make it easy for me to justify similar BIG buys in the future...
