TOPIC: Mithral Chain or Ring of Focus

Hi, want to ask the forum in general which token is better if you have to pick one.  Mithral Chain or Ring of Focus?<br /><br />Please discuss!<br /><br />Plucky

It all depends on what you want to play...<br /><br />A bard, ranger or thief would want the mithral chain.<br />The wizard would want the ring.

<br />Brag post obv.<br /><br />I am not sure 5% less chance to be hit is better than 20-100% better healing spells (cure minor wounds goes from 1 to 2...100%).

<br /><br />Mithril chain is definitely the best armor if you're just about any class other than fighter, paladin, or cleric...having said that, my cleric had plate armor (+8) and a small shield and I was still getting knocked around (maybe I was just unlucky)  last adventure so I have to wonder if mithril chain, despite being the best defense for non-heavy armor types, really provides a significant improvement to your defense.<br /><br />As a spellcaster on the other hand, the ring of focus gives me warm fuzzies all over.<br /><br />

<br /><br /><br />Not necessarily. On one of my ones, I ended up as the Barbarian (as 8th man there weren't many options left). But when the Cleric and Druid were healing, I let them borrow my Ring of Focus so they could heal me more effectively. (And then I let the Wizard wear it during the final encounter with the Beholder). <br /><br />If anything, having the Ring of Focus (assuming no one else in your party does) even when you aren't Cleric/Druid means that you gain greater priority when it comes to healing!

<br />Unless of course the cleric is your brother in which you can threaten to tell mom. <br /><br />But all the clerics are no are far too kind to ever think of extorting from the other adventurers. Even though the ones I know don't seem to have taken too much concern on that whole vow of poverty, they have lots o' tokens. ehheehhehee

I think the Ring of Focus is better ... <br /><br />The Ring of Focus provides both offensive (+1 to damage) and defensive (+1 to healing) capabilities ... while the Mithral Chain only offers defensive capabilities and only a +1 to AC over Elven Chain ... furthermore, the Ring of Focus is something that can be passed around and shared between you and your party while the Mithral Chain is something that can only be used by one person ... e.g. you can have the Wizard wear the Ring of Focus when you enter a room and while he/she fights a monster and then the Wizard can pass the Ring of Focus to the Cleric at the end of combat for enhanced healing ...

The ring of focus is overrated in my opinion.  It only works for scrolls and memorized spells and not potions.  So you only get the bonus on SCLW.  It will save you a few cure minor potions in the long run but that is about it. 

I think the Ring of Focus is one of the best tokens this year.  If you have the Druid and Cleric, it is going to give you about 10 points of extra healing every adventure, and that's very significant.  Plus, it will add to the Wizards' offensive spells also.  It should have a much bigger impact on the game than the 1 point of AC Mithral Chain gives.

<br /><br />The Wizard, Druid, and Cleric actually.<br /><br />The Mithril Chain givses what... 1 AC over the Elven Chain for 3 classes?  Non-tank classes at that?<br /><br />The Ring of Focus, if used correctly, can add like 12 points of healing and help players deal 17 points of damage.  Those numbers might be wrong (from memory) but if you float the ring around, the Ring of Focus is incredibly powerful.  <br /><br />1 AC will stop an attack 5% of the time and only when you are attacked.  On average, this is like 1-2HPs per adventure.<br /><br />Is there even a contest?<br />
