Technically John - the print run is OUT OF PRINT after the year...

Technically, that is correct. However, the item itself is not, which is basically what the person seemed to be implying.
I'll agree with the technicallity of the wording, however.

It is VERY common on BIG ticket items - in fact the register people sometimes.

It has been around for at least 2-3 months as far as I know/recall.

I've never seen that before. In fact, if you look at the Ring of Regeneration that sold for almost as much recently (to a certain Cleric who shall remain nameless) none of the bidders names are obscured on that.

As far as I know it is a random eBay thing...not something the bidder does...

But I can be wrong about this. eBay sent me some message about it but I only skimmed it.

It is a security measure...and maybe the RoR triggered it for some other auctions?? not knowing...

Never seen this in 5 years of ebaying (or however long I've been on).

I sent e-bay a note and politely asked that they check into it.

JKW

It's something new that eBay JUST started doing, to protect people from getting scammed by people claiming to be the seller.
I checked, and this (the j***r names) is legit.

What the guy claims about the item though... that's still fishy.

Here is a small write up on it...

Viewing bidder information
When you list an item, you can view detailed information on your bidders from the Bid History and Bidding Details pages. To keep eBay a safe place for buyers and sellers, eBay limits how bid history information is displayed. When the highest bid, reserve or Buy It Now price on an item reaches or exceeds a certain level, other members cannot see member-specific information—such as User IDs—for bidders on this item. Only the seller can see a bidder’s User ID.

Bidders and sellers are assigned anonymous names, such as Bidder 1 and Seller 1, which are used consistently throughout an item’s bid history. Regardless of the current high bid, when your reserve or Buy It Now price is initially set at a certain level, User IDs will appear as anonymous names throughout the duration of the auction, even if you lower the price. Anonymous names may also appear more than once in the bid history and may represent different bidders from different auctions.

Note: The price or bid amount at which User IDs are no longer viewable is determined by eBay and varies by country.

Can't hurt - but it does not look too fishy to me...

Did you not get a notice from eBay about this change John...I remember it, though I did not read it well...it was about 2-3 months ago that I first noticed it.

Gee wiz - the person is even using the same picture of nine tokens over and over again, each time representing a SINGLE token. The excuse given is lame: "not all 9 as pictured to save the amount of scanning needed." Truly, use a crop feature of an editor and simply post the picture of the single token.

Note: item 16016040618 uses the exact same picture as 200153038906 but is from a "different seller."
I suppose somene could just have used someone else's picture....

OKAY - good news I hope.
This appears to be offical ebay stuff I found above the annonyous names: "
eBay has changed how bid history information is displayed for higher-priced items. To help keep the eBay community safe, enhance bidder privacy, and protect our members from fraudulent emails, only you and the seller of the item can view your User ID in bid history. Other members will see anonymous names. "

Just totally threw me. I don't like it.
The other odd thing is that the lower ticket items from this person don't seem to be using this security measure. I saw new_moon_festival and my own ID. Very odd still.

was writing that last post up when you posted yours, Linda and Gary.

Thank you for the additional info.

I don't read notices from companies like ebay anymore - it's all spam to me.
I really appreciate seeing the note about the annonyminity varying based upon price. Still seems odd. Why would ebay care if I spend $300 or $30? Shouldn't they either STAY OUT OF IT or protect my identity 100% all the time?

I think for now it is totally random - next it will be forced on every auction.

I don't think it's random - it's what they consider big-ticket stuff.
I'm sure they get a lot more complaints about people trying to scam them for PS3's and iPods than packs of modeling clay.
