I really wish that I had seen that before I ordered mine months ago. I think I like it better. Do we know if they are going to be at Gencon this year?

Kim

I go to a lot of Comic Book Conventions, too. That steel tote would be great for putting comics and books in for getting autographed.

Can anyone verify if the items are held in place if it does tip over? Thanks!

The shelves don't come all the way out, so it won't work for dual use book / token storage. (The rivets look like they could easily be drilled out, so you could just "hack" the case.)

I can almost guarantee that they *won't* stay in place should you tip the tote over. There is enough clearance between the shelves that tokens would probably pop out if it were inverted. If the case was completely full (meaning less room for tokens to shift around), you might be safer but I still wouldn't count on it.

Update: I just remembered something from last year. There was a company selling these awesome "portable lockers" that were really well built rolling totes. Does anyone remember the name of the company? I scanned through last year's dealer list and it didn't jump out at me.

Update 2: Actually - if you got some upholstery foam and cut blocks the right height to fit between the shelves, that would prevent any chip shiftage during transport.

We (that's arcbat and I) bought a couple of the 2000 chip totes and I can confirm that they too have space between the drawers. We plan to secure the tokens in some way so that they won't slip out. I LIKE the idea of shoving in a piece of foam to hold them in place. I hadn't thought of that. We'd considered trying to put stretch wrap around the drawers front to back (discarded that idea as too cumbersome) and possibly building some sort of cardboard cover that we could tie into place (that one still seems workable). I'll post if we come up with a really good solution.

For what it's worth, the 2000 is essentially two of the 1000 totes, side by side. It's got 8 drawers which each hold 250 tokens in 5 slots (so a total of 40 slots... HEY, what a GREAT number ) The drawers slide most of the way out, but do not remove. They are riveted to the rails. There's about 1.5-2 inches of space between the drawers and spaces below the bottom drawers that are about 2.5-3 inches (one on each side of the case).

The wheels are pretty standard skate wheels. They'd roll really well on hard floors and probably on the low pile carpet at most hotels. They roll okay on medium pile apartment carpet. I don't think they'd be great for cement sidewalks or such (so don't expect to tug one from the Omni or something without having the wheels get chewed up).

The case locks, but not very securely. Rather like an old school luggage lock that someone could probably pick with a hairpin.

With regard to Poker N Stuff, they shipped very promptly (I ordered on the wkend and I think they shipped Monday). The cases came in manufacturer boxes which had been placed inside a slightly larger box and secured with ample packing peanuts. VERY well packed over all. They arrived with nary a ding. Their shipping seems a bit expensive (it was about $30 for the two cases) but given the size and weight, I can understand. I'd guess that approx $25-28 went to the shipping company with them taking very little for handling (which was likely eaten up in the cost of the boxes and peanuts).

So all in all, a very fair deal, but if you can find these cases locally, you'll save a bundle in shipping. Unfortunately, I couldn't locate a poker supply store that carried them and I didn't feel like waiting any longer and taking a chance on not having them for GenCon.

If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

I have some foam pads that I got from some packing boxes. The foam is of medium density and they measure 2"x13"x24". Do you think these would be of use to any of you? I have about 8 of them, and I'll bring them to GenCon if people are interested.

Jenett

I've been working on this in my head. (I'm useless at work for the last couple of pre-GenCon weeks. I can't think about anything but GenCon...)

If you took foam and glued cardboard to one side, it would work perfectly. The foam side would mold to the chips for a form fit. The cardboard side would provide a smooth surface for the drawer above to glide on.

I'm very tempted by these cases. I've been pondering how I should carry my tokens this year. With bag fees and all the crap from the airlines, I'm wanting something simple and effective, not too big, and that will survive air travel.

Edit

Just picked up one of these from PJCC. Looks like I found my carry-on :-P

Nekura,
If the portable locker that you're referring to had a frame that was made where you could sit on it, then I believe what you saw are called Zucas.

Kim

i just placed my order for some of the 1000ct. chip lockers. the ones like the pictures in post #1 of this thread. i was assured they will arrive by gencon.

there is a sad note. PJCC will not be at the convention this year. so if you were planning on getting one at the convention, you might want to go ahead and order one now. on a good note, i might have extras to trade.

I'm surprised you didn't get one of the 2000 chip cases. I just wish that there was a way to upgrade the wheels. I'm a little concerned how my case is going to hold up at Gencon. We're staying in the Crowne Plaza.

Kim
