TOPIC: Prestige classes

Re: Prestige classes 9 years 8 months ago #13

I played Druid Summoner and thought it was awesome. getting to summon a creature for the combat slider (even with no +damage bonus) AND getting to cast spells is really good. and the summon swarm spell was incredible; I attacked with a cave bear, cast call lightning, and bracelets of the zephyr to summon swarm on the medusa. then she stood there dazed. then we killed her in the next round.

my wife played the bard troubadour for the guaranteed treasure stamps on our zephyr puzzle run.

Paladin subclass here

never got hit :( curse you 34 AC!

so nice to have a different title but no real change for the run.

Next year I'll give it to the bard for the treasure stamp. that is by far the most powerful ability granted

plus DM's never target the paladin anyway, they always go after the squishy classes.

The fact the Troubadour guarantees a treasure stamp (and the fact both Wizard class changes suck) means that I'll never actually use my subclass for myself. It will always go to my bard

is it an indication that the players are going to donate their vouchers to bards a sign that

1) the bard ability is broken
2) the other changes are not liked
3) we prize token rewards above all else

I disagree with #1 and #2, Brad.

I love the Ranger class. Except losing my heal. Wish I had a Cleric I could trust.

The Troubadour ability translates to $$$, so everyone wants it. But it comes at the cost of a 30 point heal. (If I remember right, they lose Soothe Wounds).

They may need tweaking, but they are all fun.

Usually I play a human Fighter, but played the Dwarven Defender in grind.

Nothing could physically touch me (accidently had a 41AC), so the heal aura never kicked in. The only things that hurt me at all were the environment and the Rakshasa at the end. (Though my pride was hurt due to a few stumbles in the shifting sand and some relic swords eaten by stupid rust monster).

Sandy the Troll not like Dwarf Fighters.
Try to smash many squirmy runts.
They move too fast.
Grr.
Hate Dwarf Defense bonus vs Large Creatures.
Sandy smash puny Wizard instead.

If I had a Ro7P I would definitely player Drunken Master. But I don't, so I can't.

I play Wizard as a main. Both versions of the Wizard prestige builds suck in my opinion. The Sorcerer loses access to level 3 spells for some unknown reason immediately making him a NEVER USE EVER subclass.

The Drunken Master is cool, the Warden seems useless flavor (how many times do you actually burn ammo outside of Grind?), The Assassin is awesome but the Troubadour guarantees my party all 3 stamps assuming 1 combat stamp. 10 people = 10/20 treasure depending on what puzzles are broken this year + potential of 6/12/18+ tokens depending on # of HoP or HoP effects in the group.

I'd LOVE to use the card for something else but it's FAR too much value at steak to not give it to the Bard.

Wizard is also my main and I too think the prestige wizard options are less than optimal. I played a Sorceror in a combat run of Viper and I soon wished I was just a vanilla wizard.

for me, a big part was not liking the ranger abilities. free movement doesn't really excite me. and ammo returning only on a miss is really sad (my ranged ranger has +17 to hit...before getting the new ioun stones). and giving up the heal is just the nail in the coffin on the warden.

as for other potential classes, I had the 5-person double-down run as a druid, and I thought the summoner was one of the coolest sub-classes, so that was one of my 2 vouchers.

then it was the question of letting my best friend use the other as rogue assassin or my wife use it as either druid or bard...oh, wait, bard on zephyr puzzle. where even if you know the answer you could still be at risk of running out of time trying to complete it? yup, troubadour it is. if the treasure rooms weren't so time consuming, we had people who had been through before, so we would have had an assassin.
