TOPIC: Service Animals in TD?

Quick random question that I thought of while reading the Costuming thread (go figure):

Has anyone ever brought a service animal in to TD?

Are there any official policies regarding service animals?

I've seen some at Gencon in general but not in TD.
I'm fairly certain they are absolutely allowed but they have to be clearly indicated as most are.

I would have to think that since TD is a public event in a public space (within the confines of GenCon events), that someone with a service animal would have to be allowed access if they bought a ticket. Perhaps a lawyerly type could weigh in.

Given enclosed spaces, lack of maneuvering room and potential animal allergies I think this could be a more complex question than it initially appears.

A: There may be a few circumstances when a public accommodation is not required to accommodate a service animal--that is, when doing so would result in a fundamental alteration to the nature of the business. Generally, this is not likely to occur in restaurants, hotels, retail stores, theaters, concert halls, and sports facilities. But when it does, for example, when a dog barks during a movie, the animal can be excluded.

In TD a service animal would have a good chance of becoming disruptive and fundamentally changing the nature of the business.

I don't post this lightly as I live with a lady that is in a wheelchair due to spina bifida. I take accessability issues very seriously but even the best service animal could easily become spooked by the TD set.

I saw service animals being trained at GenCon.

one of the volunteers was doing it, her statement was if they can survive GenCon, they can work anywhere.

You know there is lots of truth to that.

Too True! Some of Lisa's spina group had service animals. I say had because only 2 people are left alive from that group of 30+. Thankfully Lisa is one of them.

Some of the service dogs were very good, others were not so good. The not so good ones would have freaked out at Gencon.

I saw a lady in the corridor with a siberian husky service animal.

Its harness had the Stark wolf symbol and "Winter is Coming" on it.

I remember a time when animals weren't supposed to have Facebook pages. ::sighs::

(I do love animals but I don't think they need Facebook pages).

Then again, I still long for the days when Facebook was just for universities. Before they opened the floodgates to the high schoolers and well before they allowed access to the general public. Those were the days....
