Many thanks to everyone with whom I ran, Coaches, DMs, NPCs, blue hands, admin, and AC volunteers, those who visited Logan's Token Trader, Cranston for the App, Amorgen for the spreadsheet (which is also the database behind the app), and especially Jeff and Lori for creating the great experience of True Dungeon!

It was great to see old friends, and make new friends. :)

Favorite moments:
  • DM cracking jokes and having an urge to tickle me while I attempted the rogue box in the chatty mush-room.
  • Succeeding at same Rogue box. :) Not a big deal for most people, but I failed every Rogue box on the single run I tried as a Rogue in 2009.
  • Succeeding in the puzzle in room one of SG as only one person. Had figured that would be a room I couldn't get.
  • DM not hearing our bard, FlyingDingle, sing, and assigning the salamander to make sure the bard sang. Great visual with FlyingDingle singing with the salamander holding her weapon over his head, ready to drop at the lack of song. A potential bardic guillotine moment.
  • DM jumping with delight for every 20 he rolled for the Salamander against me. He rolled 20s three times. Thought I was going to lose to the Salamander. Still think that die is loaded. ;)
  • Seeing Lazlo's April Fool joke of Son of Smoak being made real. Thanks Incognito!
  • Witnessing Ro-Gan's critical hit for 99hp damage.
  • Watching Hawk Fingle sing and dance in room 7 of SG, and the Monster joining the dance.
  • Getting punched by the mummy for 1 hp damage. Never expected that. AC was a lot of fun Role-playing the mummy!
  • Finding out if the SG spider had hit me, my solo run would have failed abruptly. Phew!
  • Seeing the lady who had walked by TD and joined us on our run at WYC being a volunteer at GenCon. Huzzah! :)
  • Seeing new, excited players who had a great time at their first TD!

Lotus Blossom. But that is Chip Bowles story to tell, so I'll leave that for him

The ball puzzle. Great team building puzzle.

Coaching new players.

Coaching players with preprinted party cards or who were using the app. (Thank you, thank you, thank you!)

The storyscape.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I remember pre app/spreadsheet/online equipper days as a coach. I know exactly what you mean.
Please help your coach out, and use the app or the spreadsheet, or at least know what your party's stats are if you are doing more than a sealed run. It will be more enjoyable for all involved.

Which reminds me, I forgot to put in:
Cranston's True Dungeon Character Generator app!
It makes it soooo easy to build characters and adjust them on the fly. Stayed up until 3:45am before my solo runs going through different characters and builds, as well being able to quickly help 'quip out people running with us.

FYI: There was also a "Son of Smoke" at the WYC Grind, namely the Smoke Elemental.

But yes, this Gen Con, we had the proper "(bastard) Son of Smoak"!

Glad you got the reference!

It was great running with you, Quip. Keep me in mind if you need a bard for next year. Thanks!
