It still comes down to more space and more volunteers needed vs what is the upside? You could also offer a virtual shop that lets you outfit a character/group, but you are given a set amount of GP beforehand. I would like to see something like the last option, with an arena setting for viewers :)

One of the benefits of being a newbie is that you don't know what happened in the past, and what worked or didn't.

Nebulous ideas are always going to default in people's minds to what they know, and what they know is that PvP doesn't work. That doesn't mean they're right, but there's a good chance they are. But people who are convinced that it won't work aren't going to spend a lot of time trying to disprove something they are sure is true.

But maybe you're seeing something that the more experienced people can't. So why not try to come up with a system that will work, play test it through some scenarios, and get something concrete that people can discuss in detail. Asking other people to try to create your vision isn't going to take you very far, though. You have to show them.

Don't expect a lot of help early on, and expect a lot of feedback after, but maybe you have something. Or not.

Another thing, which I had also mentioned the last time someone suggested bringing back PvP.

PvP should definitely exclude Artifacts and probably Golden Ticket effects.

Artifacts were designed without any outside input (other than Jeff and the artifact owner) and it was always argued that the power level of artifacts wouldn't affect other players. Once PvP is introduced, that argument is out the window.

Golden Ticket effects (Deck of Many Things, Cogwind Medallions) should also probably be excluded. +1 level or even +9 HP may be unbalanced in a PvP scenario.

The Divine Favor should be disallowed (not that it would actually be used). And maybe even Wish Rings.

You would either want to disallow consumable healing, or have a token limit that indirectly limits it. Otherwise someone who can pop a Fallen Star Mushroom every few turns is just going to win anyway.

All in all, PvP should really be something that is more skill-based, rather than a contest between players on who is willing to spend more money on tokens.

Sealed Pack PVP combat perhaps?

Or do a draft MtG style, and then a quick tournament.

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.

This is why I suggested the budgeted version. One of the things I enjoyed about some of my first experiences with DnD was having to decide what equipment was best for my meager starting 'budget'. Are you a good slider? Maybe sacrifice some of + to hit for defense. Have a class with more than average HP? Aim for the glass cannon. I figure you have 2-3 man teams with a menu of existing tokens and a limited budget. Having to decide how to balance your team would be part of the challenge.

or we come up with a starter pack on each class

that is used

then it will come down to who is a better slider....

if that is the case, why not just do naked PYP see you slides better

or have sliding contest..like a tournament(NCAA bracket)

I have been wanting this to come back so badly. I think tokens through Rares can be used. That way one could have fun figuring out their strategy. Doing random packs just skews things badly, one could get armor and a weapons, and the other gets gold and scrolls. I would be willing to volunteer / help out with this event. It was so much fun.

Oh, and I am still the reigning True Arena champion since I was the last to win it, in 2008.

I'm back to my drafting suggestion. Each player opens a 10-pack, takes a token and passes it to the left. Perhaps you do three 10-packs like a normal MtG draft. Now whether you win or lose comes down to your drafting skills and your sliding skills.

Question would be: do you pick your classes before or after the draft?

If you did it before, it would have to be in secret so people don't hate draft you from the start.

That is the whole point.... I am wanting the feed back ... Positive and Negative.. That is how we will get to the moon Dr Von Braun. I am a Newb! it is true. I am relying on my mentors knowledge of past events, true but not soley on things to come... For that we need people of vision. I see many here with that ability . It seems that this concept has worked in the past. Maybe not to the degree where everyone is happy, but heck, not everyone is happy with the way some things work in the current dungeon design.. You keep working out the bugs..Right? Starter packs on each class hit me like a diamond tipped arrow to the brain or the draft concept!... Brilliant!

I think some sort of PVP or Solo Player Grind would be great. Would be really cool to see how far the strongest players could advance and have some type of leaderboard system with rankings. Think it would spur some good competition among the players that are spending a ton on Tokens. I played Nightmare this year and with four people sliding orange Tokens and our Elf Wizard doing 100 pts of damage to monsters we waltzed through. It was fun but not that challenging. Putting the strongest players in some sort of competition against one another would be awesome!!
