TOPIC: The ?Special token this year....

The ?Special token this year.... 8 years 8 months ago #1

Did anyone turn one of the ?Special tokens in this year? If so, what are they used for... or what was it good for this year?

Just curious since I have never seen one used or heard tale of what happens, etc.

You got to slide. A 19 or 20 got you ring of heroism. Anything else got you a random UR

That sounds like an improvement over previous years where it was exchanged for a temporary benefit. A UR seems a high price to have monster bane for a run.

My friend did this and I witnessed it. The procedure was as follows.

One practice slide.
One real slide. Only a 20 got you the ring of heroism. He did not hit a 20.
When was about to pick the UR we both realized that not all of the URs were present. The staff member running the exchange only put 13 of the 20 URs in the box to pick from. When we questioned him about it he gave a smart ass answer and shrugged. My friend ended up with the Tower Shield so he was happy but we were both left a bitter taste in our mouth.

When I slid it was a 19 or 20 I believe for the RoH.

What do you mean when you say the staff member only put in 13? Did you see them take 13 tokens from a pile of 20 and put them in for you to pick from?

I guess I'm not sure why you think there ought to have been 20 URs in there?

Maybe because there are 20 URs in each year of tokens.

It sounds like the term "random UR" was not adequately defined and in at least one case, someone felt slighted.

That is correct. If was truely meant to be a "random UR" then all 20 should have been in there. There could have been a very reasonable explanation as to why 7 were left out but we were not provided with one.

19...why would you put the special back in...that would make no sense to me

Well - Tower Shield is a 2008 UR - so evidently that's not what they were doing.

When I picked mine there were also not 20, I think they just started with a bunch of URs, and then as they con went on they were picked out - so there not being 20 there is not a reason for concern.

Anyway - if the tokens are selected at random and they started with 20, there is no harm to you in picking 8th when there are only 13 left - you're odds of drawing any particular token are the same when drawing 8th as when drawing 1st (when all 20 are there) or 20th (when there is only one left). To see this is true consider how card games where a deck is shuffled and dealt to players in order. If the order cards were dealt mattered there would be advantage to where you are sitting relative to the dealer in terms of the cards you could expect to get - but there is not.
