TOPIC: An attempt to make coaching area easier

An attempt to make coaching area easier 8 years 8 months ago #1

First I want to apologize if anything here looks funny, I am sending this from my phone and cannot see everything perfectly.

I had a thought that might make the party card easier to fill out. We have a couple of wonderful character creators out there either via excel or the TD site, could we utilize them better?

Could we input our tokens entirely into the generator, then get our stat blocks printed out along with the list of tokens it took to get there? So all the coach would have to do is do a checklist inventory of the said tokens. If everything checks out write the premade stat block in and move to the next character. I know some players have their prospective stats made out for ease of use to the coaches, but it is, to my knowledge at least, still up to the coaching to determine if these stats are accurate. This might just streamline the process more and take away some of the stress and time crunch facing coaches. Below is a rough example.

Ranger level 5
Melee +8/+7, ranged +10/+6
Bonus damage cold
Resist fire 8
Immune to surprise
AC 24 melee, AC 22 ranged
Hp 48
15 fort, 17 reflex 12 will

Token used in this build
+2 keen scimitar
Orb of might
Boots of might
Belt of might
Stu pendous pendant
+4 Io keen long bow
Ect.....

This way the coach just checks each token on the list, if they all check out that character is done. Move on. Now obviously for new players this would not be needed, but for a seasoned group it would probably make things easier.

Expanding on that if you know your whole team's builds you could make one massive print out and just go fron player to player to check if all the tokens listed are present, this would help with the team work tokens such as the charms of synergy and good fortune. Quicker and easier now that there are so many tokens out there with so many slots. I can see some drawbacks but overall it would be nice to set up if possible.

Again if this is being utilized and I am not aware of the details I apologize for wasting anyone's time.

My party uses the Android and IPhone app. Usually we have the party card filled out before the coach even gets to the room. This helps out tremendously. Like you mentioned, the Coach then just had to come in and check a few tokens... Easy. The problems arise when you have pickup groups where nobody knows who's playing what until everyone gets there.

Amorgen's spreadsheet will allow you to print out a card and equipment list, so that is a boon for anyone in Grind that wants the bonuses.

The app now has a email function that will give all stats and a list of all gear equipped, which is good as well.

Have you checked the Token DataBase ?

I've regularly expressed the idea of character Kiosks .

The idea is you can go in and get a character built and a character sheet printed out.

Its easy enough to make out each character class with the tokens you own incase you need a back-up choice of characters.

I've offered to donate the computers required and I'd be willing to volunteer to staff this for some of the time.
Would need :
more staffing
Space
Printer
Paper

Might need to charge generics or something to cost justify.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

As stated before, I agree with this idea. Builds change over the Con, and not everyone has access to the internet, or a printer.

This is especially helpful for newbies. And it also doubles as a location for making your TD account for XP.

I'd also add a new poster next the token poster showing all the token slots. So new players can know what slots exist and how many there are before they hit the coaching room.

Even knowing they can only use two rings can save time.

i believe almost every hotel now has a business type of center...they have a computer and printer you can use...so it can be done in your hotel

If you're a TD vet, and you know what tokens you're running than yes.

If you are a newbie, and just got your tokens at the Con, and you don't know about the existence of the excel app, phone apps, or even the forum, then your hotel's printer won't help.

...

I'm guessing that new players eat up most of their time in the coaching room, figuring out what tokens they have that they can put into which slots. If they can do some of that learning on site before they get into the coaching room, it can only help. (It still would be best if they could enter the coaching room with a print out in hand)

Something else cheap that TD could do is make a table in the storyscape labeled "New players" that has the player mats laid out (maybe with a glass top over the table)

....

there are other uses for a kiosk.. like creating accounts, and TokenDB lookups, transmute recipes..

It might not be super useful to 1st timer players but 2nd time players might find the kiosk very useful.
Also new users might want to visit the kiosk at the end of the run to learn more about tokens and stuff.

ya never know, but I think there is interest and need.

Space I think its the killer.

Maybe it could be housed in the transmute area when transmuting isn't happening.
