TOPIC: Party Cards and Coaches

Re: Party Cards and Coaches 8 years 8 months ago #13

I have a portal printer I'm thinking about bring just to print the card off if needed.

The app is good, had an issue with it this year, but I think that was fixed (my son does the app stuff).

We asked him if he would be ok going nightmare and he was game to run with us. We had one person open the app and in 2-3 minutes of calling out slots we outfitted him with the spare stuff we had and had those numbers ready for the coach. It was a great thing to see how quickly we could get someone geared up, and have the stats for the coach.

I have all my builds on my phone and if I'm late I just email it to someone there, and show the tokens they want to see once I arrive.

I think that may have been a 2014 Zephyr run, if so I was on that run also. The kid ran Barbarian and I seem to remember the Paladin guarding him.

I had my stats on the app, and I actually had very few coaches ask to see specific tokens. Charm of Avarice a couple times and Charm of Heroism a couple times is what I remember. Most of the runs were with forumers and on nightmare though, so the coaches probably assumed everyone was legitimately well-geared.

There's a certain.... look... to the stats, which you get familiar with after a while. You see a lot of well-outfitted parties, and you know what looks right, and (in vague terms) how they arrived at those numbers, and you really don't need to check - especially when you see the players in question carting a token-tote, or sporting a Binia sash.

Also, the regulars tend to come through more than once. If you checked a person's tokens yesterday, odds are good they're carrying the same tokens with them today, and you don't need to check again. (Except the Treasure Enhancers. Those should still be checked every time.)

If that is the case, my coaches missed that - for none of my runs was my Charm of Avarice checked. Now, I was running with obvious purple plus groups, including two well-known coaches, so they might have just trusted us to be accurate.

I'm pretty sure my treasure enhancers were never checked across 5 runs.

On eight runs, mine were asked for 6 times. I volunteered them the other two.

Except for my 1 run with Smack's crew (and GwE and Greedy Sealed), I was asked to show them my CoA and my level enhancer every time.

I had 3 sets of print-outs with me -- 1 for PUG's (each class at its best), 1 for Grind, and 1 for when I split my tokens across several classes for when I had friends playing with me. Of course I made many trades at GenCon, so I would update the sheets every evening, throw the files on a thumb-drive, and print the updated sheets out at the hotel's "business" center every morning.

That's unfortunate. They really should have been checking.
I check even people I know. For me its just consistency and yes while I may trust someone to not check them would imply I don't trust everyone else which could give someone a bad impression. I'd hate to have the whole, "you trust him but not me" conversation.

I pretty consistently checked treasure enhancers and level tokens.

Groups with a lot of both were usually organized groups who made this easy.

In past years where they were supposed to be checked in the epilogue room, it was about 50/50 on my runs.

Well, if you need to see them, both charms (CoH, CoA) are at the top of my Binia sash.

I checked treasure enhancers and unless I knew the people involved were 5th level, how they got to 5th. Vouchers and AOW were the other things I checked, but otherwise printed or app stats were good enough for me.

The only exceptions were ones where a coach was on the run and chose to take responsibility for filling out the card.

I think it is a good thing to spot check. My buddy was the DM still did a check just to make it official and all. :)
