TOPIC: PLINKO

Re: PLINKO 8 years 8 months ago #13

So what exactly is plinko? I mean, I know what the game is, but in relation to tokens. Put a token in and win a different one depending where it lands? I saw you sitting there with the board once this year at Gen Con but wasn't quite sure what was going on this.

Hahah :)
I'm glad that the tokens made someone else happy!

Seriously tho, I don't actually have one of everything. I'm a player, not a collector, so I just have 1 of everything that I use in my builds. No Wizard tokens, no Druid stuff, Minimal Fighter gear (tho I help my friend Fox collect tokens for his Fighter build.)
Been trying to collect for Pali recently, though, since it looks like I'll be in charge of Guarding the Wizard again on one of my 5-man runs next year.

Hrrrm. Maybe I should try playing Plinko again, to get some useable Pali gear :)

Yeah I know but it added to the mystery and intrigue.

You should hear the stories I tell about other folks...

See that guy over there(pointing to Lazlo), he rents an 18wheeler just to bring his tokens to gencon every year and that guy over there(points to smak) I hear he rents an apartment just for his token.[/quote]

Don't forget Ed and his rolling pulpit/closet. Maybe he shares space with laz in the semi to move it between locations...
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

So plinko, takes 20GP to play and you win pulls based on the number you hit. The pulls are from my token box. I set the box to the same % of the starter pack from TD. In other words, 1 rare, 2 uncommons, 7 commons. and 1 in 1000 URs. I pull out common tokens a new player can't use like most gear and stuff, obviously no gold and its a bit light on 1 shot items.

The goal is to turn a players un-usable gold into usable tokens.

There are no 0s on the board so every play is a winner.
You're using common gold to play so the worst thing you'll get is another common, but you could get lucky and win 4 rares.

I designed it to give back to the community and to help new players out.
The vets come by to play it just because its fun. Its fun to see how lucky or unlucky you are.

If people come up with 1000s of gold I usually indicate that they might be better off trading with one of the traders to get specifically what they want.

I often get asked if people can use something other than Gold and I indicate anything that has a gold piece value will do but nothing else.
Plinko isn't there to token trade, its there to fill a need and have fun, so I point all those interested in trading to the traders that are set up.

Hope that answers your questions.

I have never done the Plinko game but I have sent new players with limited amount of gold to go play, better chance of getting something useful with limited amount of gold.

Just need to have it set up for longer times. :)

Even though it wasn't open all that much it was open long enough for my box to run dry, or very nearly.
Time for a bigger box I guess.

I wanted to play but was always running to one thing or another. What were your chase prizes this year and what can we look forward to next year? :)

The first year or 2 I did it, I had extra special prizes in there, some T-Shirts and lightsaber and stuff. It got a little tedious to keep up with all that so I consolidated to just tokens. The year after that I had a complete set of ONYX minus the URs, but the problem is that just encouraged the vets to play more then they needed to play. The game is really there for the newer players or folks without tons of tokens. Most of the people that wanted the ONYX stuff were those folks. So I dropped that idea.

Now its just random URs. They change based on what I have available.

I don't always see what folks are drawing, if I see something good I "oooh and Awww"
From what I heard this year someone pulled a UR among other stuff and scurried off, came by later to say they made a lot of money selling it.

:-(

In a better world, they'll have taken that money and then went to grab an Amulet of Treasure Finding, Girdle of Frost Giant Strength or something else.

I will hope I can play a little next year. Have always been interested in your idea. :-)
