So maybe a challenge run on Thursday 9AM-10AM start time (this would limit knowledge of the dungeon).

Even with an early Thursday run people can know about the dungeon. Golden Tickets, Volunteers, etc.

If people want to do a challenge run without foreknowledge, it has to be just on their honor.

That is why I said limit the knowledge. Challenge runs are on honor already. Just because you say you did it as a sealed run their is no check and balance. I am just thinking that Thursday mornings could add an element of challenge to the runs (or just making your challenge runs your first runs before talking to anyone). Just a thought.

Since TD Volunteers have forum access to all of the DM subforums, any Volunteer can spoil themselves by accessing the room threads.

So yeah, you definitely need to count on people not cheating....

Correct. But it is not like you get anything special for doing a challenge run, so you are just cheating yourself. If you want to reset your HP in each room, you could. Just won't be brag worthy.

On a budget, stick with Hardcore - its the same XP and completion tokens as Nightmare. In my experience, having a building with mostly Rare (red) tokens will get you through Hardcore just fine. If your build for Hardcore is in fact decked out with Rare (red) tokens, you don't need to have Charm of Heroism or anything else that gives your character +1 Level - you will get through with a 4th level character just fine. This of course assumes that the rest of your party is decked out in Rare (red) tokens for their builds.

Heck, I did Nightmare this year with a primarily red build (although I was loaned a Charm of Heroism, and some boots.)

The group was crazy organized though, and on top of that, super fun.

@CrowOfPike

Technically, completion tokens are different at each level. Green at non-lethal/normal, red at hardcore, red + green at nightmare.

This is the most important thing. Beyond that to spit ball if you feel comfortable hitting AC 25 you should be find in HC, if you feel confident hitting AC 30 (and have a bunch of healing) you should be good in nightmare.

You don't get the same completion tokens on HC as on NM - for HC, you get the rare token. For NM, you get both.

Perhaps WYC.

Our green run was combat. I never had a group have a problem with the elevator. I think the salamander would have been a bigger issue than the fungirl/guy.

At WYC we were one of the first groups through the dungeon, as a 3-man nightmare run. It was fun truly not knowing what to expect and being a bit scared :)

Yes, although by my math, with -15 resistance to shock, I would have just barely survived and then ran the rest of the dungeon solo... or burned some mushrooms :)
