I missed out on the majority of TD up to this point, so this kind of stuff is really interesting to me. Thanks a bunch for sharing Trent!

I remember those days. I worked my first couple cons as a coaching assistant. The coaching was 12 minutes total, and the assistants had to get all the character cards, lights, HP counters out to the tables in time for the next group. The character cards were re-used on each group, with metal chains to hang around your neck. The magnets on the HP counters were always messing up the character cards. It was all a mess, until Gary and his dad put together wooden trees to keep everything separate. They worked slick. Hang the character cards from the top, and the HP counters in a tray at the bottom. You could make up trays ahead of time, and just move the tray out to the tables. Made it easy for the players and a HUGE benefit to the coaching assistants.

BTW: People in the picture are Brian, Widseth, and Gary.

VERY cool info! Thanks for sharing. This is exactly the kind of discourse I was hoping for by starting this thread. I'll periodically share more things like this in the future, and I encourage others to do the same!

While I didn't start playing TD until 2015, I've been going to Gen Con for 30 consecutive years. A few TD things that pop out in my memory.

I used to participate in, and run, Highlander The CCG tournaments. While Highlander was essentially dead by 2004, we still had some events at Gen Con, and were tucked in a corner of the CCG hall. The first year of TD, it was in a hall directly next to the CCG area. There was a rumble loud enough coming from the wall that made running the our events difficult. We had to have players meet well away from the walls to get tourney announcements.

There was a year where I'm almost certain EMTs pulled someone out of the dungeon. May or may not have been 2005(?). I wasn't a participant, just nearby.

There was a year, maybe 2012 ish, where something leaked when True Dungeon was in Hall B (?). The hallway outside of true dungeon squished with water for the rest of gen con.

If nothing else, it's very random.

I would love to know what leaked that made the hallway a wet mess. Were there water features in one of the years where TD was set under water?

That was the max. Characters were level 3. Bonuses to Con and HP didn't happen until 2011. If I remember correctly, that was the year the level changed to 4. Back with Level 3 characters, the level boost was very rare. If memory serves, it only happened with the artifacts. Anyway, the max of 21 related to the Barbarian. Wizards were even spongier than they are now.
