Except it's a lot of work for auctioneers, and the more that run simultaneously, the fewer actually get funded.

Sure, everyone can judge for themselves if the time is right. I personally think there's plenty of room for a "standard" format auction or two - I know I'd be placing a bunch of bids on it. But then again, I'm not the one going to the work of running them.
