TOPIC: True Dungeon 2016 Appreciation Thread

True Dungeon 2016 Appreciation Thread 7 years 8 months ago #1

We had a wonderful time at True Dungeon this year, definitely one of the best yet!

The Volunteers, coaches, trainers, and especially NPCs were all fantastic! We loved having the Drow Elf with us on our two Deeperdark adventures (I hope we do something like that again), and the female elf (I didn't catch her name) on our Thursday night puzzle run was especially wonderful! She was fun and interacted with the group throughout, she was delightful and really enhanced the adventure!

The sets, and props, and puzzles were all great! We failed some of the puzzles on our first time through, but I think we caught all of them on the second time through. There weren't any that we were just at a total loss for, that we felt that we'd fail no matter how many times we tried. That's one reason I like going through Dungeons a second time, because we give the puzzles we didn't succeed at the first time some thought, and can apply that to it the second time through. We especially like the props for the Drow Spider, the Beholder, and the best was the Cthulu (not sure if that was exactly what it was, but that's what it looked like to us).

Fritz photographed one of our runs again, and as always she was wonderful to have as part of our group, and I'm sure took exceptional photos again! She's a great person and a great friend. Maybe next year she can have a token named in her honor for all the photos she's taken over the years. :)

We were really happy with the token mix this year. Last year we didn't get anything exciting at all, this year we got several great tokens that will help our group out in the future, or can trade for items we want. I do hope we're able to walk the fine line between great and exciting treasure, and discouraging people from buying tokens and transmuting tokens.

Dave Radtke was great as always in the token transmutation, I always enjoy catching up with Dave. I hope we're able to do a run with him someday.

It was a lot of added fun to work on our Red Herring puzzle with Chad and Raven (with a key contribution from my friend Jeff Howard, and our entire group that helped look for Runes throughout our Dungeon runs). I look forward to working on our Crystal Skull puzzle (if there is one) next year! I'm still blown away that Jeff is taking such efforts on these puzzles, his personality and generosity is really the heart of True Dungeon.

I want to give a special thanks to the coach, trainer, GMs, and NPCs that were so thoughtful and considerate to my friend that had some physical challenges this year. He had some real reservations about coming this year, but he had such a great time with GENCON including the True Dungeon runs that he's determined to keep coming even if his condition grows worse. Which is so gratifying since he's such a great friend and person, and I can't imagine GENCON without his friendship and presence. I was especially touched by the coach that made a special effort to give him the party card to carry and told him that he was the leader of the group. :)

So, thanks to Jeff and all the great volunteers that once again made this True Dungeon experience the definite highlight of a great GENCON weekend! I'm already looking forward to next year!
