TOPIC: Wand Suggestion

So, permanent 1/room is too strong, and 1/round for 1 room doesn't seem to drive use.

What about turning them in like runestones for one dungeon, and being able to use them in every combat, either 1/round or 1/room?

I could get behind that idea

You know they aren't current't 1 round for 1 room right? They are once per round as many rounds as the combat takes. If that is what you mean I apologize because I misunderstood.

I think you misunderstood. 1/round means once per round. As in currently they can be used once per round for one room. You are both saying the same thing.

On topic:
I'd say that unfortunately the token that made them really neat to use (medallion of mystic mouth) is no longer really equip-able because the slot has been taken up by relics/legendaries. However turning them in like runestones I could see perhaps driving a bit more use?

As a runestone with a requirement of a Free Action to trigger them I would use them. If they still take a standard action to use that's not doing much to making them not suck, the damage is just too crappy to be useful above normal

I don't know if its beneficial or not, but they could always add another mage power to the relic/legendary. It could be something like.

Activate - You may activate one wand for use during this combat. If activated, as a free action in conjunction with other mage/arch-mage powers you may discharge one use of the wand per round. An activated wand must still be turned in at the end of the combat.

It would cost you 5 hp to use Activate and take up your free action in any round you choose to use it. The wand would still be considered consumable. But it would also have it work in conjunction with M/AM powers so that you're not prevented from using more M/AM powers along with the wand. But this would prevent you from using any other items with free actions in the same round such as Ring of Spell Storing, Cabal Set power, Pouch of Tulz, etc.

It's just a thought, but right now this might be more useful than intensify. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Intensify seems like a "dead" ability at the moment since spell resistance is no longer a percentage of spell damage. Intensify reduces the monster's spell resistance to 25%. How would that even be used in the current environment? Am I supposed to take my spell damage, multiply it by 0.25 and if the monster's damage mitigation is higher than that number, lower it to that number? The problem with that is that I only currently know what damage is being reduced because the app tells me. In person, I do not think the DM tells you how much damage is being mitigated, just that "your spell doesn't seem to have as much impact as you expected".

Wands aren’t 1/round - they are however many times you can use them per round.

With medallion of mystic mouth you can use them twice per round - once as a standard action and once as a free action.

That is incorrect actually.

This item does not allow the same wand to be cast twice in a single round because no swap would occur. If you want to use the same wand effect twice in a round, you must use two copies of the wand and swap one for the other.

Matthew is correct that at one point there were as many times as you wanted. But Arcanist is correct that is how they currently are.

I was meh on the original mad evoker charm, so when it got nerfed super hard, that soured me on the whole wizard relic/legendary. The mage powers are nice, but if that is all I get for $300, 5hp per use, limit of 1/room, AND give up a free action wand use every round; I will stick with the mystic mouth.

What's your basis for 1/round for 1 room doesn't seem to drive use. Our Wizard build features this and takes advantage of Wand Mastery, Ring of the Siren, and IS: Fluorite Cube to make each shot +7 damage. Our group looked at it and decided that the nerfed MEC even at relic level was not as good as Mystic Mouth. That might change at legendary level, but our group likely will never have the legendary.

We use 4-5 wands every run, basically 1 per combat and it adds between 11-15 dps per round.

I'm guessing others have keep this set up too, maybe not among the epic elite, but out in general population. I think it is pretty balanced the way it is and is a design choice.

The runestone like idea is okay, but basically commits you to one wand damage type per game, that will seldom be optimal.
