TOPIC: Updated token mat

Updated token mat 2 years 5 months ago #1

With the expansion of the bead slot, are there plans for new token mats in coaching? I've been working on different configurations, curious if people had other ideas.

I've always thought of things in groups of 4: head (head, eyes, 2 earcuffs), upper body (neck, armor, shirt, cloak), lower body (belt, pants, greaves, boots), arms (wrists, hands, 2 rings), gear (ranged and melee mainhand and offhand) and baubles (3 charms, 1 bead). With 3 beads now, the charm/bead sextet fits fairly well opposite the 5 ioun stones. These groupings can be arranged on/around an adventurer silhouette. I can't art, so I just pulled a random image to give the impression I'm going for.

With the exception of the cloak, slots that can be supplemented are kept to the perimeter, so it's easier to add an extra ring or half dozen charms. Thoughts?

Looks really good. I had forgot about the bead slot expansion.

Bumping this since it may have gotten lost in the GHC chatter.

One quick comment: if you flip Neck and Back, you have a spare spot below IS #4 for the second back slot from Charm of Brooching.

An excellent observation! Placement within the groupings of 4 isn't too important, so that would work very well.

It would be unusual to include a second slot that requires a token to unlock on the token mat, though. They're meant to help guide new players and generally avoid edge cases.

To clarify: I don't mean a physical space for "Cloak 2" on the mat.

But there's a "blank" space between Ioun 5 and Neck right now. If you swap Neck and Cloak on that sheet, someone with the appropriate token could use that unmarked blank spot for the second cloak. That's all :)

Most of us are using the App anyway (or some other reasonable facsimile) so it's mostly new players. The problem is that new players often feel like they need to have something in every depicted slot. Adding more could cause more angst. The same thing with a Greaves slot. New players don't have the opportunity to have one but seasoned players know about and can just place it on the mat for any coach to see. I'm torn as a coach about the need to expand the player map.
