The problem I see with stating "16" and "17" is that these can be just numbers to new players, and doesn't convey how much of a bonus it actually is.

I haven't seen anywhere that a new player (aside from supplementary materials) can know that the base AC is 10.

I submit that most new players may not even need to know what their AC is, as the DM handles comparisons. I do definitely think knowing what the bonus is, matters.

I think that Grizwald's suggestion is a good one.

I agree with Grizwald's suggestion as well. Base AC/Starting AC are all things that only make sense to us because we've all played too much D&D. I have no concept for how good 16/17AC is, nor is it listed on any other card.

However, if TDHQ feels its best to have the total on the card:
"The Monk gains +4 AC due to Martial Training (Total AC 16)"
"The Monk gains +5 AC due to Martial Training (Total AC 17)"

Or
"Due to Martial Training the Monk starts with 16 AC"
"Due to Martial Training the Monk starts with 17 AC"

The latter at least removes D&D stat terminology that is causes veteran D&D players here mild confusion.

I agree with a few of the above comments. I don't think most new players know what their AC is anyway. DM's help when necessary. Returning players and vets use the app. I myself have no idea what my characters AC is until I load stuff into the app/website.

Grizwald's and Impy's suggestions are both good.

In reference to the Fighter card, does Bolster have a definition I'm not aware of? I'm totally not catching how it relates to using a shield for more damage. For reference, the Oxford Dictionary definition of Bolster:

noun: bolster; plural noun: bolsters; noun: bolster pillow; plural noun: bolster pillows

a long, thick pillow that is placed under other pillows for support.

verb
verb: bolster; 3rd person present: bolsters; past tense: bolstered; past participle: bolstered; gerund or present participle: bolstering

support or strengthen; prop up.
"the fall in interest rates is starting to bolster confidence"

As you quoted it can mean to Strengthen or Support. To which I understand the ability as when using a shield Fighter's gain Strength from Buldur.

I’m a little unclear on the Ranger saga power. Does ranger get +1 damage per hit if they meet the requirements, or do they have to hit with both axes to get a single +1?

And if it’s the former scenario, will +1 shock be recorded on the party card - assuming again two axes are equipped in coaching?

Yes. The prerequisite is that the ranger must wield an axe in each hand, not that both axes need to hit.
  • If the ranger only scores a hit with one of their two axes, the ranger gets +1 damage.
  • If the ranger scores hits with both axes, the ranger gets a total of +2 damage. (+1 from each axe that hit)

Druegar wrote: Matthew,

If I came off as rude, I sincerely apologize. For what it's worth, I agree that the wording is not 100% accurate. Yes, of course, everyone's base AC is 10 and it gets bonuses or penalties as dictated by ability scores, equipment, and what have you.

I appreciate that very much. Tone is hard to interpret in writing.

Thank you and for my part I'm sorry I came in hot in my response.
