Has there been any consideration of allowing volunteers to select "supply crates" (soul bound or not) instead of usual rewards, where a certain number of supply crates can be used to upgrade your Safehold?

(To clarify: supply crates are just a made up thing that's roughly: spend x to upgrade your Safehold to the next level)

It might be another way to increase volunteer participation, since that seems to be the event bottleneck.

I assume it's impossible to make safeholds just for volunteers (separating out the mythic stuff), but it could be another cool system to consider. Maybe a different upgrade path with different rewards.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will give it some consideration when we review those details.

Would be nice to have some alternate way for folks who are certainly invested in the game like volunteers to have some avenue of approach for the safehold program. Especially for folks who vol time and time again.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I think it would be cool for full time GenCon volunteers to get Safehold V and five underlings for 2023. Even cooler for them as part of second full year of volunteering at Gencon 2024 they get Safehold IV and five of those sidekicks. Even better yet after third year of full time volunteering at GenCon 2025 they would get Safehold III and five of those sidekicks. Etc. so on. After five years of full time volunteering at GenCon they would have each level Safehold and five of the side benefits for each level.

As someone who volunteers at most conventions I think this would be awesome, It is a good way to eliminate being limited by not wanting to surpass volunteer tokens in slots, even though sometimes this happens(tanzanite cube). This would be easily adjustable by changing their value every year just like the recipies can change every year. I do not think it should go as far as Edwin is saying but the idea is sound. Having the multiple con relic program was pretty cool but im not sure what happened to it after the pandemic, but currently relics are only worth 235ish dollars. I volunteer because its a blast and the people are the best but it gets expensive quick having to take a week off work and get a hotel room and travel. This would be a nice non-monetary boost. Maybe if you volunteer full-time at 4 cons you get a master mythic transmuter token!!!! That would likely saturate the market too much though, oh well.

I don't think this is a good idea. Maybe at the first tier it's ok, but after that I doubt the cost of the Safeholds will be on par with volunteer pay. Plus, it discriminates against the people that can't volunteer.

How? The people who don't volunteer can still craft them as normal, which will remain the same regardless of whether tokens are given away to volunteers or not. If anything, this would make volunteer rewards less exclusive since all current ones are volunteer-only.

100% This is in no way discriminatory.

I grant Robs point that the later tiers are probably going to be priced to high to just give away. 200 safehold 1 hitting the market after gencon would likely drive the price down to a level where it defeated the point of safehold.

That said I love the idea of some kind of intermediate item that could be traded for a low level safehold right off or saved up to trade for the larger holds over a few years of repeat volunteering.

I think it depends on what the cost of the Safeholds will be and how one may look at it. Let's say Safehold I costs 5K to reach. The players that may really want to volunteer but can't (for whatever reason) miss out on a very expensive Token.

It's this way now, but your talking about a Token worth a few hundred dollars vs. one that may cost a lot more. I think giving a very expensive Token out, even for five years of service may not sit right with some people that wish they could join in to get the benefit but can't.

You pushed for higher costs on the safehold program to make it harder to get, isn't that discriminatory for someone who may not for various reasons be able to get it at the high costs? I also don't think you should be just given a safehold past potentially V, but the supply crate idea has a lot of merit and is easily scale-able and balance-able .

It is a wonder why volunteers are hard to attract.
