TOPIC: Token Transmuting at Gen Con

Token Transmuting at Gen Con 1 year 4 months ago #1

How does the general process work? I found the forms to fill out, do I only fill out the required page?
How long does it take?
I coach day shift, so if I drop off my order during a bubble, how long before it is ready?
I finally have all the Tinker Bits to make my Totem of Heroism (my first Legendary) and didn't want to mail it.

Congrats on gathering all the tinker bits!

Fill out the first page/cover page and any pages that apply to transmutes you are making.

In past years, Gen Con transmutes have been on a non-drop off system (unlike GHC). You wait while they finish your order. I don’t know if there’s an exception for volunteers who need to get back to their shift. If not, perhaps you can find a trusted friend to do the transmute for you? If it is just the Totem of Heroism, verifying that you have all the components won’t take long, but the question will be whether there’s a big line ahead of you.

BeLinda nailed in, I'm only going to fill in a few minor details.

At Gen Con, your transmutes are done right then and there. We do not do drop-offs at Gen Con.

We do not convert Trade or Reserve tokens at Gen Con. We get people who cry crocodile tears about this every year because they "forget" it's always been this way. 🙄 We don't have the volunteer staff nor the space. Plus, if we did convert them, the wait times would be bonkers! We make an exception for international travelers, but that's the only exception. Be prepared to show your passport if that's the case.

For those who may not know already, we now have a dedicated page where you can download the In-Person Exchange Form:
truedungeon.com/exchange-form
So if you can't find this post, just go there. And in case you forget the URL, you'll find a link to it on the Tokens tab at the top of every page.

Transmuting hours at Gen Con 2023 are as follows:
  • Thursday:
    8:00 am to Noon
    3:30 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Friday:
    10:00 am to 1:00 pm
    3:30 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Saturday:
    9:00 am to 1:00 pm
    3:30 pm to 6:00 pm

If you want to expedite your token exchange process, here are some things you can do to make the exchange process go faster:
1) Fill out your paperwork now so it's ready the second you walk into the transmuting room. You can download the form here.

2) Do not forget to include your verified recipe checklist(s) along with your completed & signed order form when you turn in your submission. A complete and completed recipe checklist is not optional.

3) Fill out the form legibly. Don't write so you can read it, write so a stranger can read it.

4) Organize your bags. Specifically:
  • Face all your tokens in the same direction.
For recipes whose total ingredients number in the single-digits, don't worry about facing them. Keeping two or three tokens aligned and ordered in a bag is nearly impossible.
  • When possible, don't make bags with lots of free-floating tokens. Obviously, this doesn't apply to bags of tokens numbering in the single digits.
  • When submitting a Transmute, place the tokens in the bag in the same order they are on the recipe checklist.
  • When submitting a Transmute whose recipe requires more tokens than can fit in a single snack size bag (I'm looking at you relics and legendaries), fill multiple snack size bags and then put all of those smaller bags in a single larger bag. Again, keeping the tokens in checklist order really helps.
  • Make sure the tag you put in each bag is facing out so it can be read before the bag is opened.
  • Do not put more than one tag in a bag.
  • Keep like items together. E.g., if you're making 20 each of DP, AI, and MS, grouping all the DP together, all the AI together, and all the MS together helps. Not applicable at Gen Con
  • Use printed, not hand-written bag tags. If you want to create your own tags, that's fine, but use a plain font that's at least 14 points in size.
  • Do not tape your bags shut.
  • Do not "roll" your tokens in a manner similar to how one might receive bulk change from a bank.
Assuming you've read this far, you may be saying to yourself, "Sheesh! That's a lot to take in!" Indeed, it is. As I said above, these tips are for people who want to maximize efficiency.

Can anyone verify that we'll be able to transmute Charms of Avarice at Gen Con? I'll finally have the ingredients to do so and would prefer in person over USPS. Thanks!

Barring a HUGE (and highly unlikely) run on them immediately prior to Gen Con, yes.

I wish this would be reconsidered since true dungeon no longer has any other summer time in person conventions.

Will we be able to get change on 10x tokens at gencon?

If you need to break 10× Trade tokens, my suggestion would be to do so before Gen Con.
General Reminder: If you need to make change for a 10× token, please order it as if you were sending in for 10 individual Trade tokens. By that I mean, order 10 of the standard (1×) version of that token. But instead of sending in ten bags of "raw" tokens, put your 10× token in a bag. On the bag tag, hand-write "×10" after the name of the trade token before inserting it (text side out) into the bag. Please do not put ten tags in the bag--just one is all you need.

E.g., if you want to convert a 10× Dwarven Steels token into ten (1×) Dwarven Steel tokens, you would:
  1. Order ten Dwarven Steel tokens
  2. Place a 10× Dwarven Steels token in a zip-top bag
  3. Take a (1×) Dwarven Steel bag tag and hand-write "×10" on it
  4. Insert that single tag into the bag--text side facing out
DO NOT just write a note that you want change. The minions who fill the orders need to know how many total tokens to send you. Ambiguity leads to errors. 😥
