TOPIC: Thoughts on True Dungeon GENCON Adventures

I was wondering what everyone thinks of the True Dungeon GENCON adventures this year (they are listed in Upcoming Events). I'm especially fascinated by the Tomb of Terror Redux. Isn't this the first full-sized Dungeon at GENCON (not including 2003 of course) that is sealed pack only, Normal or Hardcore XP only (and apparently stacks with the regular Tomb of Terror), and 3 treasure tokens only (four for sixth level players). And I'm guessing full-price since it doesn't mention a discount price.

I am optimistic that this will bring a ton of new (or lapsed) players into True Dungeon, because there isn't any loot incentive for experienced players to do it multiple times or buy out whole runs, so I'm hoping the vast majority of tickets go to newer players. Maybe some tickets will still be available past the first few hours so more casual attendees have a chance to pick up tickets.

It is not the first full-sized dungeon that is sealed only, not even at GC as the Viper Pit redux was run at GC.

There's only one GC dungeon I have interest in doing. While I'm fine with doing dungeons repeatedly, I consider GC the worst place to play, so I'm only interested in full dungeons and significantly new content.

I’m most interested in Tomb of Terror. Playing it once last year wasn’t enough for me, and I’m happy to play the sealed format. I’ll skip the other sealed event though because I will see it at another convention.

Dune Viper sounds cool, but depending on price and availability I may wait to see if I can play it at Gamehole. “Deluxe” hints to me that a ticket could be $120 or more…

I’ve had two full volunteering weekends of Crimson Isle already so I’m through with it. However there’s nothing wrong with the dungeon and people who see it for the first time should be pleased.

I think deluxe refers to it being multi path so if you want to see all the content it would need to be run a couple of times. No clue if it will be more expensive than the other 7 room options.

I agree that veterans are less likely to buy multiple tickets, but it's still likely to sell out so probably good for the game community.

Came to double check to see if Tomb of Terror XP stacks.

Quoth truedungeon.com/gencon :

For the purpose of earning player XP, Tomb of Terror Redux is considered the same adventure as Tomb of Terror. Therefore, unless you survive further into the dungeon than you did on all previous plays, you won't earn any additional XP by playing Tomb of Terror Redux.

That's great, that should free up even more tickets for new players.

I haven’t played Crimson Curse so I am definitely doing that one, as well as Dune Viper. Some friends may run the 4 room dungeon so I will run with them, or with a group here that I can join. Not sure if I’ll do Dune Viper more than once yet; depends on available time and money.

I’m worried that Dune Viper is going to sell out instantly and too hard to get tix. With a multi path I’d like to run at least twice - but I see all the hardcore players taking those up so only the sealed runs are left. I might see about doing ToT one more time - but not planning on repeating Crimson Curse or Golden Obelisk. Will be interesting to see how many newer players run with this set up

I expect folks to be disappointed in sealed 7 room run when told that the tokens they bring from last year can't be used or they will skip paying over $100 again for essentially 12 minutes of change.
