I love this in theory, but I'm not sure how much it will help in practice unless the forum software has a technical option to enforce it proactively. Are you thinking TPTB would delete all but someone's first post per thread? Ignore all but someone's first post per thread? IMO either of those risks creating bad feelings for anyone who makes a mistake, which is pretty much inevitable. Maybe those of us who like the idea are better off just starting our own unofficial discussion thread to see how it goes?

Yes, my AC is lower than the Wizard's. No regrets!

It’s hard enough to read 6 very long threads. I doubt I would take the time to read 12 very long threads instead.

The intention is that moderation would be required on the threads. The original suggestion is here:

One of the goals is that half of the threads will be short, and give people the option to understand and provide feedback in a concise way, without being forced to wade through long threads.

Although, reconsidering, most of the benefit would come from this being done for only the UR and Transmuted tokens.

Common, uncommon, rare could just have one thread each.

I hope it would largely work due to forumites being mature and competent enough to follow directions.

Perhaps the “feedback” thread could require people to quote a short preamble in each post:

Reminder, this is the feedback thread for RARITY. Only one post per player please! For extended discussion, visit the DISCUSSION-THREAD-LINK

I agree a few people may mistakenly post multiple entries on the same thread, and may feel bad if moderators remove it.

I think that “feel bad” has to be weighed against the various “feel bads” that the current design process entails - namely that a small minority of participants tend to suck all the air out of the room with voluminous posts, many of which are often off topic or repetitive. I feel this chases away some contributors who can’t or don’t want to wade through hundreds of posts to get everyone’s point of view on the set.

David, I agree with you. If there was some sort of software method of only allowing one post per forum user that might work. If it requires moderators to delete posts or do some sort of rebuke/punishment for those that post more than once, I could see a lot of ill will being created.

FWIW the TokenDB thread has been "Issue reports only" for like 2 years now and people have been relatively well behaved. Some discussion occurs but it gets nudged pretty easily.

What if it were blue?

Ooooooh, ya got me there.

No - wait: The Ravens need to be black. A blue raven is a sad raven.
But if the raven had a shiny sapphire in its beak... then... Nah, shoot. The icon is too small to do that justice.

Gonna stick with THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! and see if I can push for Sapphires somewhere else in the set ; )

Matthew Hayward wrote: When initial designs are posted for feedback, I’d propose TPTB adopt an idea which has been raised previously in the forums, namely to have two threads per rarity, where:

Thread 1 is for feedback, each forumites may post at most 1 message in the feedback thread (which they can edit if they wish).

Thread 2 is for discussion, where people may post what they like.

This request is because design discussions tend to become repetitious, and it is hard to seek out the core ideas people have for the set, from the blizzard of commentary on well worn topics (e.g. loot cap and other economic related topics, class balance and relative power, relative power of class legendaries, etc.) that frequently emerges pushing threads to triple digits of posts within a few days.

In order to justify this idea, I ran some stats on 2024 token design.

I looked all all the token feedback threads in the 2024 design forum (excluding the ones about Safeholds and Omni Orbs, and the idea generation ones), and summed up the number of posts and words in them (quoted words count as words for the poster that quoted them).

I excluded from the post and word counts posts made by Jeff and Druegar, leaving the rest as community posts.

Here are the results:
  • 118,596 total words, that's more than 1.5 times the length of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
  • 1,355 total posts
  • 59 individual forumites posted
  • The median poster made 8 posts with 540 words total.
  • The average poster made 23 posts with 2,010 words total.

Other results:

The single most verbose poster accounted for around 1/8th of all the words.

The single most frequent poster accounted for around 1/9th of all the posts.

Half the words were posted by only 5 forumites. These 5 "super posters" each posted at least twice as many words as the 6th most verbose poster.

80% of the words were posted by only 15 forumites.

I was the 10th most verbose poster :)
