How would you use it?

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

How long are we talking about?

If it was an hour rental, I'd pop back to Florida Saturday afternoon and buy a certain ticket.

If it was a few days, I'd do some stupendous investing, then I'd get John Wilkes Booth to shoot Hitler instead of Lincoln.

If it was permanent, I would acquire technology from throughout time and space and make myself a real-life Tony Stark in the here and now. Unlimited free energy for everyone else, an awesome powersuit for me.

Also, I'd stop Firefly from getting cancelled.

Would be subject to the same rules of time travel that the Doctor must abide by? Notably, not intervening in our own timeline.
Have you looked it up in the TDb?

Actually - I think intervening in your own timeline would be required!

I go tell the ancient Mayans that there calender was wrong about the end of the world and let them know they would mysterously disappear. But first I would have to learn how to speak Mayan.

In that case, I'll pretty much just echo what Robert Lane said, what wouldn't I do!?!

That said, these would be just a few of the items on my itinerary:
  • Witness the signing of the Declaration of Independence
  • Witness the Big Bang
  • Meet Shakespeare, Einstein, Aristotle, Oscar Wilde, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Spartacus, Tchaikovsky, Bayard Rustin, to name just a few
  • Hang out with Byron, Shelley, and Stoker during the period they came up with their famous monster stories
  • Rescue Alan Turing
  • Ride a dinosaur

I'd travel ahead/away to a time/place where cancer has been cured and bring that back for everyone. Also, I'd go back in time and buy cases and cases of Vintage Star Wars toys.
