It said amulet, so I was assuming that was the loop that the cord/necklace goes through. We're just seeing it directly on edge, so can't see the hole. My interpretation anyways.

Each symbol might not need to be unique. It could be count the number of lines, how many lines can you trace without picking up a pen, count the number of dots (small and large could be different). Orientation of lines (vertical, horizonal, diagonal)?

It could be a map as someone suggested. We would need to cut it into 8x8 pieces and then make the map like a puzzle.

It could be an overlay onto something else which then would reveal the message.

It might be a waste of time at this point without more context (or another clue).

didn't we have a room with mushrooms with dots? big dots for 5 and small dots for 1?
