TOPIC: Winter Weight Loss Challenge

Starting weight 343 lbs.

I'm hesitant to comment, however.

What worked really well for me to eat/drink better was to write down what I ate/drank. I was in a year long class where we got little booklets and I carried those with me. As I have little interest in entering into devices or spreadsheet or whatever, once I stopped doing that, my habits weren't as good even if I can approximate how many calories all sorts of things are. Numbers mean something to me, so eating to numbers was something I did. The other benefit of daily look is that many days had something that was completely unnecessary.

I'm not a believer in short term weight loss. I believe in lifestyle change. The main benefit of being overseas for 4 months was showing that I could lose weight - 27 pounds roughly in 4 months. Two months back in the US and gained 15 pounds - just different lifestyles.

After ignoring eating habits during pandemic years, I'm trying to make a serious effort to get back to better habits, in particular cutting down on how much sugar I drink as, among other things, a loved one just died of diabetes.

Now, the other thing that makes a huge difference in my experience is trying to implement change with others. Support groups work as doing things on one's own is hard but also because we tend to overlook that many people have the same issues we have. So, hopefully, these forum efforts offer some of that group support to make it easier to change habits.

Count me in, I'm at 247 as of a heart appointment last Friday. I used to be 280 and went down to 178 and have slowly went the other direction, two heart surgeries and a promotion didn't help either, hoping to be back to 200! Much like Ian I need to see numbers to stick to things, so I'm going to try calorie counting with an app.

Is there still room to join, after yesterday's Super Bowl feast I've awoken this morning with a new passion to get better before the summer.

I wanted to suggest a good weight loss book (Alan Carr - The Easy Way To Lose Weight). I have read it and started the plan. I can actually say I am somewhat impressed with it. It has a lot more good than bad and I am thinking it will work. Naturally, your mileage may vary.
