I also love how they didn't sign the letters in a formal way. Just signed, "George" or "Bill," etc.. They understood that the fraternity of people to do the job was very small and all hoped their replacement would be good for the country. They also understood how hard the job was on them emotionally and physically. Bush was a tremendous help for Clinton and they'd talk somewhat regularly. I believe Clinton did so for Bush jr and Bush jr for Obama. Obama offered and kept reaching out to Trump but Trump didn't take advantage of it.

While your basic premise is reasonable, that doesn't mean such conversations are appropriate everywhere.

For example, if one is visiting someone else's home and the homeowner prefers to keep conversations away from sensitive topics such as politics, it is appropriate to respect the host's wishes. It's their home, they get to set the rules. Failure to respect house rules, even if the rules are only implied, may result in being asked to leave.

Honestly, not sure the intent of the last post. I think most folks have been in line with the spirit of the original post and your first post Druegar.
