"What are you listening to?" 17 years 6 months ago #1

Inspired by a similar thread on another forum I frequent, I find myself drawn to start one here.

What music are you currently listening to, or what is in your Stereo/CD Player/I-Pod/car?

For me, it's Alizée. I've found that I really like her sound, and I enjoy the challenge of translating and trying to find the double-meanings across languages.

How about you?

The sound of robot zombies dying by the dozens. Well, I was around 10 minutes ago anyway.

I went to see Godsmack and Rob Zombie last week, so I have been listening to a lot of Zombie music lately. Well, him and Ani DiFranco.

With daughter out of the house and no one here listens to music (lol, imagine!) - the radio has country, old classic and rap - the best 10 every hour until you can't stand it anymore! I would LOVE to hear some new music - r&b, jazz, alternative, etc. I have problem with getting it off the internet - copywrite - and don't want to buy something I haven't heard. So what to do?

Suggestions?

I stream music over the internet from digitally imported: www.di.fm/
I've got my dad listening to their channels as well while he's at work.

Well if you're a fan of subscriptions you could choose satellite radio or online music services like Yahoo! Music Unlimited.

Satellite radio has a wide range of stations.

Online music subscriptions like Yahoo cost about $10/month, but give you unlimited access to a huge library. This works well for people who don't care about "owning" the music but instead want access to "everything". You can download songs to a PC and listen all you want. The only catch, is that if you let the subscription run out, the built in copright protections shut off access to the files.

Or, a great option is the music site Pandora.com. You put in an artist and it creates a playlist of similar musicians (as compiled by a large panel of listeners and professional musicians). The more I think about it, this would be a great way to start. It's free, a wide library is accessed, you can skip songs if you don't like it, and you can even give a thumbs up or down to a song. The only thing you can't do is replay a song - this way they fall under more of a radio category.
