TOPIC: TD Site Overhaul

Re: TD Site Overhaul 13 years 7 months ago #37

One suggestion I have is that wherever you are on the site, you should have a link to go back to the main page. Right now when you are in the forums, you have no link that will return you to the main TD page (at least I haven't seen it).
One more idea, how about under Media you include a section for links to True Dungeon articles and references external to the site. So, you could link to reviews of TD in other publications or to fun things like the YouTube video of The Guild discussing their recent run through the dungeon. Jeff could reference the updates in the "blog style updates" on the home page when they first appear, but this would be a spot on the site where those links would then be saved for anyone who wants to go back and reference those articles or clips.

Not sure what the best thing to call it would be... "external media"? "External links?"

-Scot

That's a great idea.... "TD Buzz"? "External Links" might just be best... Definitely a good idea.
Are we still looking for a new hosting provider or has that decision been made?

What's a hosting provider? =D

We need to move it off of Doug's server soon...but I don't know where yet.

I just had this idea...

What if we made a Flash TD game on the website? It would be a little mini-preview of TD, and it could have many 3 rooms. We would make it just like TD with 12:00 room limits, music, the gong song, a fixed token pack and even a mouse controlled sliding combat. People could see the Bibwik video, interact with the room via static images, solve puzzles with the mouse, and fight monsters, too. In the end, they can get a random 10-pack as treasure even. If we tracked HP, it would even be better.

Are there any Flash programmers out there that could make a simple online version of TD? I think it would be a great way for people to get a sense of TD, and we could even do each year's module(s) after Gen Con every year. It would make a fun Riddle Reveal device!

I hope someone could work something like this up. Something basic would be fine.

Feedback? Thanks!

That is very cool! Wish I had Flash writing skills, but alas no. Excel is my strong area.

Yeah, my flash skills are somewhere in the low end of the 'nonexistant - suck' range. =-/

Jon and I had discussed doing a "dungeon walkthrough", much the same way realtors offer "virtual tours" of houses, but I'm not sure if any special equipment is required to record the images. They may just be a lot of separate images stitched together by software... A full dungeon run game would be MUCH cooler!! Amusingly enough, we had also talked about eventually having a flash combat game that would just throw monsters at you until you died, and have high scores recorded and displayed in the forums... those two things might be more achievable first steps if Jeff doesn't want to hire someone for the fullblown deal. :)

I really like the sound of the gauntlet game. I think it would be cool if it had its own token database that you could earn gold to buy virtual tokens packs to give you more equipment for the gauntlet and the dungeon runs.

I would like to see a non-pdf token guide built into the website. I envision two pull down menus, one for rarity (common, uncommon, etc.) and another by type (weapons, potions, scrolls), with a possibility of another based on class. The menus would lead to mini-indexes with grouped items and clicking on the various items (Horn of Plenty, Dagger, Turkey Leg, etc.) it opens a pop up window with a picture of the icon and a description/rules of the item.

Also, how about this for flash mini dungeon: Visitors to the site could select a character (which would have a preset group of tokens) and they could go through a four room dungeon consisting of two puzzle and two combat rooms. One of the puzzles could be interactive (like the sliding block puzzle from this year) and the other could be purely logical (like the phoenix egg puzzle from a few years back). For combat you could have a sliding board and players could select their weapon and use their mouse to slide the puck. This mini dungeon (which could also change from time to time) would be a great showcase for beginners. And, it could even be possible for players to do a random draw and see what comes up.
