I believe they are opening at 8, or 9 am.
No I did not pre register tickets for TD yet.
I am but lowly help. I'll be volunteering, working with the Ultra Fabulous Super Duper TD Tavern Babe Jenn.
I actually have yet to go through the event(this year will probably be the same).
Last year I couldn't get my friends to go through it, so I got to help for a like four hours, and I had a blast. After spending four hours in the dark, coming out I was like vampire hissing at the lights. They seemed panifully bright. heheehe. But I got a spiffy bright orange volunteer shirt, and was at the riddle reveal.
So this year, I have signed myself over to my TD friends and will be working the con as a volunteer.
Which is probably best, because I have only video game rpg'ed. And would probably die quickly do to lack of experience. And would be the mockery of the group. This way, I can dress up and only make an idiot out of myself that way.

You should try some tabletop RPG (at least one!) while you're ayt SoCal this year. Its fun. I plan on running through TD and TH at the Con this year - never been through it before, so I want to just enjoy it this time around. I'll probably volunteer next year.

And I *need* an alarm clock to wake up, these days. Two, actually. I sleep like I'm dead.

Thanks for the suggestions,
This year I expect TD to take up all my time while I'm there.
Last year I got to check out the exhibit hall, was in the costume contest, (btw The great Lukeski is funny),and got to help out at TD for a few hours. So that was the whole of my GenCon experience. But hey I got to dress up!! Woohoo for getting to wear my malificent wings
Since I'll be working, no pixie dressing up for me this year, but I've gotten an okay to wear my eartips. Yay!

No costume contest, but thats okay, I'm rather shy and wouldn't have done it last year without my Sis dragging me into it. hehehehehh Maybe next year I'll be a bit bolder.
I'm still kinda meepish, my brother in law had me kinda afraid that I was going to be attacked and beaten up from the stories he told me. I wore heeled boots(so they clomp when I walk) and had bell anklets(so I jingled too), and so when ever we would walk past the gaming tables to get to the exhibit hall I walked on my tipie toes so I didn't make so much noise. Cause I was afraid they(the gamers) would get angry at me or something. My friends have since pretty much told me, that he probably told me those things so I wouldn't go and wouldn't have to put up with me tagging along. So this year, I'll be volunteering instead of going around with my sis. Still feeling meepish, so I will hide in TD, and pester my friends there. *little laugh* So they will have to put up with a little pixie bothering them. Teehee

Ah. Well, thats cool that you're volunteering... but for the whole time?? You should get out, socialize, get a feeling for the Con. Gamers aren't too bad (unless you run into one of the hardcore ones, that have miniaturized copies of their character shets in their wallets and have taken to calling themselves by character name in public... those guys are a bit weird).

Do you TD folks do any gaming after the event closes down at night or do you usually go straight to bed?

At Indy there are over 50 of us on 2 shifts in multiple 'departments.' So the answer is yes and no.

I'm working split shifts in the tavern with 1 other girl. Because we are the only two we kind of wrote our own shifts to cover the entire run time (8:45am to 1:45 am) I'm scheduled in 1 game and will probably hit a couple of pick ups. My husband is a 2nd shift DM. He's gaming during the day before his TD shift and then going to bed after.

Not sure how it's going to work at SoCal.

Well, I'm running a game of 3.5 D&D at SoCal, running the first 6-hour session on Friday, and the second session on Saturday... if anyome's interested. My first time doing any kind of even at GenCon, so.... blah, we'll see how it goes. If it goes well, I'll make it a regular thing.

If not, I'll prolly just try my hand at volunteer work.
