TOPIC: Another 4C in 2011?

Re: Another 4C in 2011? 14 years 1 month ago #37

I kind of like the idea of there being something for monster trophies.

If they make a trade item for monster trophies, then it has to be used for something in the future. There can't be that many of them out there not redeemed. Jeff has already said that you will need 1 of each trade item to make supreme ring. If we make a trade item for monster trophys that gets added as a required item. I am hoping to avoid that.

Flatly, you're wrong. They're almost all out there. I helped run the combo turn-in booth again this year and I can tell you without equivocation that people don't usually turn in the ingredients other than when it's mandated (read: 4C). When it wasn't a 4C, I saw a total of less than half a dozen ingredients passed in, and that was out of well over a hundred trade-ins. The same held true a couple years ago working the booth. I saw no more than 2 ingredient tokens passed in the entire day. I even remember commenting about how it was only to be expected given the GP substitution. I know personally I must have at least 50 ingredient tokens just sitting around. Probably more.

You may be right about the numbers Henwy, but I have a feeling that the distribution of the monster trophies is fairly skewed. For example, I can certainly make Aragonite if I wanted to, but I only have about 10 monster trophies. Most of them are from this year. Luckily that means that they will never need to be turned in for a 4C, but next years trophies will. As it stands it will probably be several years or some very serious trading before I can get a single 'Monster Trophy Trade Item' at 25 trophies a pop. In those years I will likely end up with several more Aragonite if I feel inclined to get it. I'm not saying that any of this is a bad thing, perhaps that is exactly what TPTB want.

I think I had a few more than you turned in when I was working the turn-in booth, but I suspect quite a lot of them were turned in for Dragon Tooth Amulets. I know I traded nearly all of my 2009 Ingredient Tokens for Dragon Tooth Amulets.

Well let me rephrase that. There can't be that many of them out there in lots of 25 or more. I suspect the vast majority of them are in the hands of casual players in small quantities of 1-2 each. Most of them probably have no conception of their worth, or even know about trading them in for combos.

I explained to several new players what they were after they were dissapointed in getting them in their treasure draw. Most thought it was cool once explained to them. I was the same way when I first started. I really wanted cool weapons or armor, and was disappointed I got a bunch of monster tokens not useable in the dungeon.

You having a hoard of 50 is likely the exception rather than the rule.
ISo the compromise I proposed was to have some number be turned in for special clues in the lore program, assuming collectors want to keep a full set but get rid of extras. I do not know where that will go, but we will see what comes of it.
If you have other ideas, please share them.

I would also like to see the option of turning in a complete set of 40 Lore tokens in exchange for an ultra-rare ? token. Since each Lore is essentially a rare, I think the 40:1 ratio of rares to an expendable UR is fairly balanced.

To avoid spending my GP, I used a total of 16 of the 2009 ingredient tokens in making (non-4C) combos this year. And I will confirm that Henwy was taken by surprise when he saw the first of the Ogre Tusks slide across his counter. =D

Lore took up a common slot. It's probably not right for it to ever instrinsicly have more value than a common. Not to mention that those who ordered condensed, unless they requested otherwise, got a complete set of lore rather than their random allotment of lore tokens. That would complicate any trade-in.

At 120 Lore Tokens per $1K order, that would result in an additional 3 Ultra-Rares per $1K order, which seems VERY high. I would like to see them to be able to traded in for something though, as I have a big box of them just sitting at home.

If the monster trophiy trade token makes the cut, I am leaning toward making it a 10/per trade. Yes, I know it is counter to the rest that all go off of 25 or 25 units per trade, but 25 puts it out of reach of most players who have not been active for more than two years.

Dave

I know that I have very few ingredient tokens laying around, as I've always used them when possible during the combo trade-ins. .. That, and I had maybe 1 ingredient from last year, and needed to trade for the others to make the 4C amulet.
Blimey!
