Is it worth the cost of upgrading the +2cleaver to +3?

Depends on your point of view. I'm keeping my baton at +2 for now at least because I have other plans for my trade goods over the next few years.

Depends. Do you want a +5 Death Cleaver?
If you do, then you need to upgrade the +2 before the year is out.

In my opinion, here are things I'd do first, that I think have a better cost/benefit ratio than making a relic weapon. If you've done all this, then, sure!

Get Ring(s) of Brilliance / Enervation / Frost
Get Bracers of Frost/Fire
Get a Girdle of Frost Giant Strength
Get a Shirt of Baneful Prowess or Blessed Strength
Get an Ioun Stone Onyx Cube and or Sphere (if the Sphere would make your STR even)
Get either a Crown of Might or the Redoubt Set (shield in the ranged offhand).
Get Gloves of the Brute or Mithral Gauntlets (or maybe even Gloves of Weapon Finesse)
Get a Stu-Pendous Pendant or Amulet of the Champion (unless you're using a URTE in the neck slot)
Get a Draco-Lich Claw Charm (And Charm Bracelets if necessary)
Get Boots of the East Wind or Four Winds
Get Goggles of Instant Analysis

I agree with all of that except, as Steve pointed out, there is a timetable on the Relic level transmute. The rest of those additions you mentioned would be separate purchases that could be done anytime.

Yeah. Last year I transmuted for +3 Vipers, Slayer Swords, and Bows, instead of other choices I could have made. Even if I don't use them, or transmute them up ... they are a limited time window component needed for the 'eternal' recipe.

I would have liked to stock up on more teeth at the prices I was getting them at last year, but them is the breaks :P

Well I play Bard so this item isn't really for ME anyway. That being said I am 1500 gold 12 rare weapon/armor and a few dwarven steal (5) from being able to make it. I figure once I send in for transmutes I can bring them all to GC and have the cleaver made on sight (is this true if I have all the transmutes made already?)

Everyone else in my party plays Barb, fighter, Paladin. So it's more for them. I wanted to know if it was worth even upgrading given the cost. I have often heard people talk about how such an such (fill in blank) is not worth the upgrade cost. I wanted to make sure this was not one of them.

Thanks guys!

First : Crazy generous dude! Tip of the hat to you.

Second: Yes, if you have the *exact* items needed in the recipe [IE: you don't need to swap out armour for aragonite etc.] You can do the transmutation at GenCon.

As for is it worth it? Only you can decide that. It is a weapon that has a higher chance of hitting, and adds damage to each hit. Matt pointed out that, depending on your play style and equipment currently, there might be better tokens to 'buy' .. but if you are (roughly) $30 (steel) and maybe $36 Weapons/Armor (or $40 for an aragonite from Dennis or someone), plus another $15 in gold. $85 for a +3 weapon is what you are looking at. Basically, the cost of a purple.

The great thing about Matt's list is the flexibility. With Deathcleaver, you're locked in to Barb/Fighter/Pal.

Almost any of the other equipment is usable by anyone.

As for cost-effectiveness, you could probably give three people +1/+1 for the cost of just your Deathcleaver-wielder, unless everyone is already kitted out as Matt suggests.

That said, I'm making a +5 Baton, in apparent contradiction to everything I've said. Logic only takes you so far...
