...but it got me wondering whether you were an undercover agent, here to fan the flames of a secret war between the Relic and Legendary advocate crowds. In which case, yes, someone did a wonderful job of inciting (whether intentional or not.)

But will they recognize your fiendish plan, and decide to de-escalate? Or will this grow into a Captain America/Civil War-esque free for all?

I was mainly wondering if the trade token/transmute ratio was worth it for the cleaver. For example if the recipe for +1 hit and a little strength required 20K gold and other absurdities I feel like a forumite would let me know that it wasn't worth it.

Is the recipe cost to make the relic a fair price? How does the ratio of bonus to cost compare to other recipes of similar standing? These are the questions I should have asked and will ask next time.

I will likely post sometime next week about trading for the steel and gold I need. I appreciate all the great advice!

Thank you for all the wonderful incite.

I think for the things you can transmute right now, the bang for the buck is roughly:

1. Boots of the Four Winds - if you already have the North and East boots.

2. Ring of Heroism.

3. Ice Crag Hero Earcuff - if you already have the 2013 monster trophy set.

4. Blessed Redoubt Mail - likely to hold on a BiS for several classes for a long time (less power creep observed in Armor than Weapons), usable by many people.

5. +3 Deathcleaver

6-oo. The umpteen other things you can transmute.

so - I think it's up there value wise - and probably closer to the top if you didn't snag the relevant ingredients for #1/#3 already.

Would Captain America's shield be a Relic? Or a Legendary?

Considering it's pretty OP and there's only one, I'd say Artifact.

Captain America's shield would be a legendary - it's made out of vibranium, do you have any idea how rare that stuff is?

*********************************

I'm sorry for getting rant-y before, it's been an ugly week for me. My apologies, all.

You're looking at around $380 (lowest I've tracked) in trade good and recipe parts (not counting the $100 value of the +2 DC).

Average damage of the +2 DC is 9.83, average damage of the +3 DC is 10.83.

So is it worth $380 for +1 to hit and +1 damage? Depends.

Is it going to free up slots at Normal or Hardcore?
Are you already at Nightmare level (it gets exponentially harder to make gains at top tier play)?
Were you going to use those resources perhaps for something else?
If you don't do it, are you willing to wait to sell/trade off those resources for something else?
Do you or your friends really like playing Barbarian/Fighter/Paladin?

There are better general-use items to shoot for (Frost Giant Girdle, Blessed Redoubt Mail, a +2 STR item, most of the cost of a +3 Viper Strike Fang) but the +3 DC is the 2nd-best-in-slot weapon for a Barbarian.

I'm building one, so I'm biased. But I really enjoy playing Barbarian when I can't play my Rogue.

Unrelated: I typed out Frost Giant Griddle 3 times in a row, I obviously need breakfast.

Don't forget it's probably also Soulbound.

"Is it worth it?" That's a personal call, with three parts. (My son-in-law doesn't think any part of TD is "worth it." So his answer would be more passionate than most of ours.)

Do you play Nightmare? If not, then probably no. Doesn't mean it wouldn't help a lot, but you probably don't NEED it (not even on nightmare, if the rest of your gear is up to snuff.)

Which leads to: Do you have other avenues you could take to get that +1/+1 e.g. Upgrade a rare to a UR? If so, then there may be cheaper ways to get there.

How much do you want to spend? It's pricey, like all relics. Unless you have piles of ingredients already, it might be cheaper to buy one. Even then, maybe cheaper to sell bits and buy the cleaver.

All the recipes go through extensive review with the community before being finalized, so the +3 DC one is in line with others, or people would have screamed. Unless it's cheap, then most would just hum quietly to themselves.

Why would you say it is Soulbound? Many others have used it. Thor's hammer could be argued to be soulbounded....not making that argument just saying it is more a likely candidate to be souldbound.

Definitely an artifact as there is only the one shield (although it HAS been destroyed and reforged several times). It's not soulbound though because it's been wielded by many other people - Falcon, Bucky (Winter Soldier), Hawkeye (Ronin), Superman (JLA/Avengers crossover, early 2000's), Cable, Hulk, Wolverine, and probably more that I'm forgetting - having kids has cut into my comic readin' time.

I never get to talk about comics. :D

Thor's hammer isn't soulbound either, it just has the restriction of only being wielded by he (or she, I'm looking at you, Jane Foster) who it (or Odin, depending on which continuity we're talking about here) deems worthy.

Wielders: Beta Ray Bill, Storm, Captain America, Thor's paternal line (father, gf, ggf), Loki (he's chaotic, not evil), Jane Foster, Professor X, Rogue, Black Widow, Superman (same crossover as above), and Vision (MCU, but my theory is the only reason he could at the time was that he was a blank slate, I don't think he'll ever be able to again now that he's lived a bit).
