Announcing the availability of a new app, Token Validator, to validate your Charm of Avarice purchases!

This app (presently only available on IOS) will read the RFID tag any of the new Charm of Avarice tokens, and verify the authenticity of the token. Full validation requires access to internet, but if internet is unavailable, a limited software validation will take place. The software validation is not as reliable as the full validation through internet, but does ensure that the RFID is present and programmed correctly.

This simple app is presently available for iPhones7, iPhone 8, iPhone X and all the Plus versions of those iPhones. It is not compatible with iPads or MacBook/iMac, as those devices do not have a chip reader.

It is presently available on the Apple App Store, Token Validator for IOS . The interface is simple. Tap the 'Read Token' button and place the token near the chip reader on the phone. For standard size iPhones, it is generally located at the top of the phone in the center of the back side of the phone. For Plus or Max versions of the phone, it is located off-center toward the camera. An audible sound will inform you that it has found the RFID to read.

Enjoy!
Tom

EDIT: I forgot to mention. This is a free app. Tokens not included. :)

It takes a few hours for the links to propagate through the App Store servers.

Android is close. The code is done, but I need some beta testing. i am hoping to either get that at Gencon or find some suckers...I mean beta testers. I only need 2-3, but I need to get it installed on a few devices to make sure it's robust. I expect to get it released shortly after Gencon.

Tested out on a iPhone 8
Sometimes takes several tries to validate.

Does not work on dragon orbs (not that it said it would but tested anyway).

You do need to get the token in a very specific location on the front of the phone close to the top for it to scan.

I had tried putting my CoA into a poker chip key chain to keep it tied off but it will not vacillate on the app in the key chain, but will with the plastic it comes in. I’m not sure if the keychain will work with TDs scanning equipment or not. I’ll bring a key chain to test that with to the con.

Would love to have this before Gen Con. I'm up for beta testing it for Android. I have a Pixel 2 and a couple of charms to test with.

I have better luck scanning the token on the back side of the phone. Close to the top, but on the back. Generally, I find on the back of the phone, I can get some distance, but I am running iPhone Xs.

EDIT: I can confirm that my iPhone Xs reads the Charms of Avarice, while the charms are within the plastic case. There should be no need to remove them from the container, in order to validate them.

Dragon Orbs utilize a different type of RFID tag, that cannot be read by phones.

Thanks to some brave test subjects, I have released the Android version of the Token Validator on Google Play. The version is 1.0.7. The link is below.
Token Validator for Android

You will need to scan the token twice, but the screen will lead you through it. There is no Scan button, as the reader is always active on Android. Just bring the token up to the phone. The reader hardware will be toward the back of the phone, and is generally centered left to right, but may be from the top of the phone to the middle depending on your specific phone.

Internet access is required to get a full validation.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Just a reminder that the token (Charm of Avarice) can be read through the plastic case.
