For myself, I love that little things like this can make Td a year round hobby and build some ties among the small number of players active on the forums.

One year in the dungeon there was an obelisk in the storyscape that was a cypher. My friend was trying to figure it out and I told him: “just ignore it, it’s an old prop or something” - little did I know it was part of a multi year puzzle some dedicated players have been chasing. That seemed cool to me.

I also like the occasional inclusion of information in the storyscape that could be relevant in nightmare runs.

The Orion’s Belt thing was probably the best thing I’ve seen happen for this online community since I have been here, I can’t remember another time so many people were so engaged and collaborative for so long. And - that got kicked off by notes attached to quarterly token reference books which mainly go to large token buyers.

I am glad for the magic Td injects via these things.

If it were up to me I’d shoot for outcomes like Orion’s Belt where however it’s introduced it becomes a community scavenger hunt.

Matthew, I agree with you completely. I much prefer a scenario where there is a puzzle the entire community is solving together and which everyone knows the solution when it's solved, than one like this where some people may see it as some part of the community keeping secrets from the other part. But everyone is different, and I'm sure many people prefer this type of puzzle. It's hard for True Dungeon to make all parts of the diverse community happy with something like this. :)

Matt, wasn't there another Token guide that was sent (last year?) that had sticky tabs with the words "Beware" on it and each one had different ruin symbols? I have my guide somewhere, would have to find it again. I remember a thread where people were discussing the ruins and posting them but not sure if the puzzle was ever solved.

Well, you can all blame me for this one.

Although "The Recipe" didn't finish until VTD 6C, I've been advertising that something was coming since Thornbarb Pass.

To make it fair, the final sign leading to the recipe wasn't even encrypted.

Since none of the Orbs got mixed into treasure, I really wanted to see a few more get released for our players. (kind of like the additional participation tokens for that dungeon)

You all had access to Orbs as a Patron, then through 8k auctions/purchases and now, as a pretty expensive recipe. If you want one, make one.

If I hadn't done this, any extras would have been mulched. instead of being offered as a transmute.

If you feel slighted or hurt because it was a secret, I'm sorry you feel that way. But I have no intention of stopping secret or special things from happening in the dungeon. That just wouldn't be fun at all.

If you need help finding the page before it unf url s, just let me know.

Thanks for finding a way to make these available to everyone instead of mulching them! And thanks for the best clue yet! :)

Having missed 6C I appreciate the thread and the opportunity to find a way to make an mystic orb.

Pony boy, thank you!

And TPTB, thanks for the challenges!

We'd been watching the recipe for months. I'm glad it was added the way it was (fun for us) and I'm glad it also was leaked to the masses in this thread.

Some people were upset by this but I think it was handled fairly well given the unique nature of 2021

Agreed, all joking aside I'm happy with the way this was handled and hope it continues. John/Grunnel are amazing ambassadors for the brand. I'm sorry if anyone felt slighted but I dont think any fault lies with TPTB.

"Hear, Hear!" +100 to more secret and special things happening in the dungeon!

There definitely were beware stickers.

I think that related to a dungeon room with four singing skulls in the dungeon and maybe if a party said a rhyme or something similar they got a boon. I my / party never figured that out so I might be way off.

There was also a puzzle from, either the 2019 or 2020 patron run I think where puzzle pieces were sent to the participants with their treasure. I don’t know the details about that as I wasn’t part of it.

To my knowledge the 2019 4 skull puzzle was only solved by the first group to "do the thing" in the room at gencon. I was in an early group who tried but we were told that whatever the results of the meta puzzle were only triggered for the first group that tried it and it had already happened.

A clue was given out in 2020 but never actionable due to physical con restrictions in 2021

The recipe meta puzzle that began with blacklight rune markers sent out on the patron run was also discontinued, but may have morphed into the grunnel orb business.

There was no Christmas clue this year.

If I'm wrong on any of this please feel free to correct me.
