It is the players that set the real value on all items afterall. (Along with TD assigned Rarity that does have a factor in the equation...I'm sure)

Right, players set the value of tokens but that value is based on function in the Dungeon and Tavern. If gold has no (or limited) function in the dungeon and tavern, then it will have no value to players.

And that is exactly where we are...Collectors are in a bit of a gold frenzy - so that they can build COMBOS and bid on artisans...where the common player is looking to trade any amount of gold for anything useful.

***cues up circle of life music...***

We are right back where I said we are...we need to do something for the common player - so that they can spend gold pre-adventure...(in the tavern/muster/training area - which is a trick as there is currently no room/time for a shop.) Too bad we can't invent a vending machine that would take a 200GP gem and dispense whatever the customer punched in...it would eat up Muster room time - but make for REALLY happy common players!!!

Not sure what I had on my original list to Jeff and Dave...but here is my 2 coppers.

OUT
Commons
1 gp, 3 gp, Shocking Grasp

Rare
15gp, Smokestick, Identify....if 4 then Owl Wisdom

Very Rare
50gp, Dark Vision, Rumor...if 4 Keen Edge...if 5 Blink.

I agree with Eric on the Rumors...they should be shifted down one notch in rarity...

As for what gets swapped in...well I would UP the gold in each rarity to make it more of a "oh YES" pull rather than...GREAT - I got the worst common in the game...

Also, I agree - it is sooooo totally time for a HELM. Maybe a flail and polearm too for that matter?

Footgear for the non-thieves would be COOL too...something to cover us head to toe would be neat...hehehe
Boots of Escaping are a must for 2007!

Anyone got an idea of what they actually do? Apparently, that cop made his saving throw verses the Boots magic.

Can you quote yourself? I guess so!

These boots don't exist in D&D -- just the mind of a comedy writer with poor research skills. However, I think it would be cool to include them anyway since that episode is so dang funny.

How about if it allows the wearer to be under the effect of a Sanctuary spell?

I admit the Boots of Escaping is still hilarious for me 1 year later since initially viewing it.

As to the actual item's abilities and interactions, Couldn't this have a chance effect like (die roll either range on die or roll off against DM)

Success - You escape the room and for simplicity sake, you get set aside by DM for the remainder of the room while the rest of your party deals with the fight in the room. You are also no longer able to assist in any manner until the next room.

Failure - You are prone and take 1/2 or 1/3 current health or whatever the DM deems in damage.

This is just a suggestion on what the boots can do in lieu of the video :)

Originally I was thinking they can be like the same effect as the Cloak of Displacement.

Back on topic on what tokens to remove:
I agree on most of Gary's suggestions.

Being the wizard, I never found a use for Shocking Grasp outside of Neverwinter Nights.

Smokestick I think is still useful, although no one thinks about it.

The stat booster tokens never saw any use from me except as trade for the combo tokens.

Replace the stat boosters with a summon familiar/pet token (Mordenkainen's Faithful Watchhound anyone?). The token itself can represent the pet :P The familiar can be simply a noncombatant, or if it is to be part of combat, it can supplement a wizard's spell allowing one free melee attack per combat (not round of combat). Wizard can shuffleboard an empty slider to represent it.

On the super rares, Keen Edge isn't very useful for me to cast. At this level or even at the Purple token level, maybe it is time to add Feat tokens. Class specific ones like Uncanny Dodge, Spell Focus, etc where it will be simple + or - to a die roll for saves and attacks.

What do you all think?

Oh I almost forgot. Polymorph spell would be awesome :D
I choose to randomly turn Smakdown into a rabbit?

Would boots of escaping work much like a cloak of displacement...or a ring of evasion??? Or be able to function as any one of the three depending on a die roll?

1-5 - no effect (hit as normal)
6-10 - sanctuary
11-15 - evasion
16-20 - displacement

...we need to do something for the common player - so that they can spend gold pre-adventure...(in the tavern/muster/training area - which is a trick as there is currently no room/time for a shop.) Too bad we can't invent a vending machine that would take a 200GP gem and dispense whatever the customer punched in...it would eat up Muster room time - but make for REALLY happy common players!!!

Thats exactly right. True Dungeon need something a gold sink for the common players. Traders interest in gold is limited by the two official gold sinks that are currently in place (Artisan tokens and Combo Tokens). If a Trader isn't interested in either of these and there are no other official gold sinks provided to players, then there interest in gold (i.e. value) will go down.

And there are a TON of options for common player gold sinks. The easiest is the True Dungeon shop but there are other items and services that we could provide.

1) Guild Memberships
A. Casters (Wizard, Bard)
B. Healers (Cleric, Paladin, Druid)
C. Warriors (Fighter, Monk, Barbarian, Ranger)
D. Thieves Guild (Rogue)
E. Alternate - Nature (Druid, Ranger)
2) Purchasing actual True Dungeon Merchandise (Mugs, vials and such) with gold.
3) Purchasing Enchantments (good for one dungeon) from a Wandering Wizard
4) Interactive NPCs using gold
A. Bribing a guard,
B. Donating to a homless person
C. Paying someone to sing or play a song with gold
D. Paying for Rumors (This would allow us to remove Rumors from the mix)
The quality of the Rumor would depend on how much you paid and who you ask.
This is more of what I see Rumors as anyway.
5) There could even be a game of chance set up in the Tavern and a chance to win more Gold

The more official uses of gold inside True Dungeon, the greater the demand for gold will be from both the common players and the traders and the happier players will be when they get gold inside their packs. Who knows... maybe they will even buy more packs just to get gold!
